Learning Mentor - South East London - Immediate - Permanent

Do you have a passion and talent for supporting children and young people with additional learning needs and mental health disorders?

Are you keen to make a difference to the lives of children and young people whilst building your experience and furthering your career in SEND/SEMH?

I am working with a South East London SEMH School who are looking for an engaging and passionate Learning Mentor for a 1:1 support role for a boy in year 10. The children attending this school will have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan) for SEMH and sometimes Autism. I am looking to speak to professional and committed Behaviour Mentors, even if your experience is informal/voluntary, we want to hear from you!

Learning Mentor requirements

  • Essential - Passion for working with young people who require additional support in order to access education and social development
  • Essential - Resilience, patience, calm manner
  • Essential - Experience of working with Autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and learning difficulties, or experience with SEMH, trauma, sensory processing, social communication
  • Essential - Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships
  • Beneficial - Youth Mentor/Worker experience
  • Beneficial - Passion/experience for animal care/horticulture
  • Beneficial - Passion/experience for mechanics or construction

What you can expect in this role

  • You will be the key support worker for a boy in year 10 who has an EHCP for SEMH and ASC
  • This child requires a patient and resilient 1:1 support who will work with very challenging and sometimes physically challenging behaviour
  • As this is a challenging school, you will be trained in PRICE (Protecting Rights In a Caring Environment)
  • For aspiring Teachers, Pastoral Workers, Child Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, SALTs, Counsellors, and Social Workers, these positions will offer relevant and vital experience for your chosen career path
  • Continued Professional Development - every Thursday, all staff are part of full school CPD
  • You will have an opportunity to make a huge social impact, as a Behaviour Mentor you could change the path of someone's life!

Pay

  • This role is a permanent opportunity to start immediately after the Easter break, salaries are £16000 - £22000, depending on experience,
