Job description

Carers UK is looking for a highly motivated and creative media professional to be our Media and Case Study Manager to lead the organisation's media activity. The pandemic has really shone a light on unpaid caring. This is a dynamic role which highlights the experiences and challenges of unpaid carers, especially in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and helps to bring about the change that unpaid carers need.

The Media and Case Study Manager will be responsible for devising, delivering, and supervising Carers UK's media activity maintaining a high profile for the organisation's campaigns, research and other key activities. You will help maximise Carers UK's brand awareness liaising with departments and colleagues across the organisation. You will work to increase the number and breadth of carers able to tell their story in the media.

About you

You will be a highly motivated individual who can thrive in a high-pressured environment. You will be able to handle multiple competing priorities and quickly familiarise yourself with new topics, and communicate them clearly and engagingly to our target audiences. You will have proven experience of delivering successful national and regional media strategies. You'll have great writing skills, strong planning skills and be able to build great relationships supporting carers to tell their stories.

About the role

As Media and Case Study Manager, by leading our media and PR work, you will have a pivotal role in maintaining and raising the profile of Carers UK, our services supporting carers, and our research and campaigns. Operating across the organisation you'll play a key role in projects involving multiple partners and corporate sponsors delivering media coverage on a range of platforms against a range of organisational priorities and objectives. You would be increasing brand awareness and securing high levels of media coverage. You will also be responsible for supporting and developing case studies to ensure that the voice of carers is heard in the media. This role also manages the Media and Campaigns Assistant.

With over 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK and 6,000 individuals becoming a carer every day the need to support them is growing and urgent. Unpaid carers save the country an estimated £530 million each day and are vital to the friends and family members they support, as well as to the wider community.

COVID-19 has dramatically affected carers across the country. Our recent polling suggests that the figure for unpaid carers could now be as high as 13.6 million, with 4.5 million people starting to care overnight due to the impact on coronavirus on services and individuals.
