Responsible for all Operational activities on site including Production, Warehousing, Maintenance and Quality Control. Site leader in the absence of MD. Key role in all aspects of H&S, Environment and PPC, ISO, Lean, NPD and NP trials.

Job purpose
Responsible for all Operational activities on site including Production, Warehousing, Maintenance and Quality Control. Site leader in the absence of MD. Key role in all aspects of H&S, Environment and PPC, ISO, Lean, NPD and NP trials.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete responsibility for Operations at all levels.
- Meet all production targets and liaise closely with Sales.
- Liaise with MD and peer group.
- Build and maintain team ethic among supervisory group.
- Full responsibility for personnel safety on site.
- Ensure plant cleanliness and tidiness is maintained at all times.
- First line responsibility for discipline.
- Ensure all shift personnel receive the correct training, including induction and on-going training.
- Meet production targets.
- Responsible for all production planning and that correct raw material requirements are passed to Purchasing Manager.
- Communicate information to your staff from MD and others.
- Liaise with Hoganas Group in all aspects of safety and risk assessments
- Ensure safety is put at the top of list of priorities at all times and engage with shifts to adopt and comply with all health and safety targets. Develop a culture that demands the highest levels of health and safety standards, not only for Abril personnel, but for any, and all, visitors to the plant
- Drive all aspects of production to meet customer demand. Responsible for all production planning and ensuring all works orders are raised and delivered to the production shifts in good time.
- Work with Purchasing Manager and Warehouse Supervisor for all raw material requirements and delivery scheduling.
- Liaise with Sales Administrator for all customer requirements and delivery dates. Complete production plan that meets these requirements and share with co-workers.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills
- Educated to degree level in an Engineering discipline, ideally a mechanical or maintenance/process engineer with supervisory and autonomous working experience. Must have appropriate background in manufacturing and batch processing although not necessarily in the chemical industry. Must be able to demonstrate previous competence in running a production unit with good problem-solving abilities.
- Must have experience with Lean or 6-sigma and be able to demonstrate this.
- Must possess the ability to communicate well, written and verbal, at all levels within the company and should be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database functionality.
- Strong organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to lead people. Self-motivation is essential but must be able to demonstrate a team player role. Delegation of tasks and responsibility whilst ensuring proper training and competencies are in place to meet the demands placed upon staff.
- Managing personnel resource to meet production demands whilst maintaining a strong safety culture is essential.
- Help maintain the standards for ISO9001/14001/18001 by conforming to all regulations and procedural aspects required.
Planning of work and how it is generated
- This is a hugely autonomous role with much of the work being generated by the demands of customer sales. Production planning meetings are scheduled fortnightly, but production planning is normally three months in advance.
- Work is similarly generated by demands of H&S, environmental issues, external regulatory bodies, and other factory issues.
- We are part of a large Swedish organisations and some work is generated by the demands of Group.
