Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for *an experienced biomedical scientist or field application support scientist *to join Roche Diagnostics, the world's leading health supplier in In-Vitro Diagnostics.

This exciting position, *covering the Midlands*, is part of Roche Tissue Diagnostics (RTD), the world's leading supplier of automated diagnostic systems to the anatomical pathology market. Through automation and systems integration, RTD is standardising and optimising the slide staining process, thereby assisting pathologists recommend treatment solutions that deliver superior patient care.

Roche Tissue Diagnostics' instruments allow for standardised and reproducible staining of specimens. Recent advances in digital pathology, NGS techniques and their impact on the field of drug discovery have created several growth opportunities for Roche Tissue Diagnostics. Our automated instrumentation and reagent systems are used by leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to speed the discovery of new drug targets. In addition, Tissue Diagnostics is collaborating with leading pharmaceutical companies to identify, develop and commercialise new diagnostic tests. By incorporating Tissue Diagnostics in the drug development process, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies have the potential of predicting response to new targeted therapies under development, making RTD, a complete companion diagnostics company.

As part of the UK Product Specialist team, you will report to the Product Specialist Manager.

The *scope of this role *will be to provide technical and scientific support to customers remotely and at customer sites for Roche Tissue Diagnostics portfolio of instruments and reagents. You will be expected to perform installations of instruments for demonstration and new purchases at customer sites (as well as performing initial validation prior to use). You will be pivotal in providing support for our latest portfolio of cellular pathology instruments including our primary staining platform (HE 600), advanced staining instrumentation, and our digital pathology solutions (DP 200).

As part of your Customer Support role, you will focus on:

* Providing expert advice to customers and colleagues within your territory;
* Establishing and developing a rapport with our customer base, which enhances the reputation and professionalism of Roche Diagnostics;
* Preparing and delivering technical training of RTD instrumentation at customer site;
* Assist in developing the histology laboratories with the latest drug biomarkers;
* Continually develop your own skills and knowledge in the companion diagnostic field. This will occasional include overseas travel for personal technical training and development;

You will be expected to live in the Midlands ideally. There will be occasional times when you will be required to work off the allocated territory for short times.

Who you are

You will possess a confident working approach and enjoy the changing environment of Histology. You will have a strong desire to continually improve and be at the forefront of exciting new assays and techniques as more complex companion diagnostic tests are developed and released.

To be considered for this role, you will have to be knowledgeable about and understand a modern NHS laboratory. You will have a strong desire to improve and shape both patient treatments and pathways through advances in Histology. You will be qualified to degree level in Biomedical Science.

You will be able to demonstrate a high standard experience to our customer base and excel in the art of troubleshooting and taking ownership and pride in your work. Customer focused, you will be capable of working with minimum supervision and manage your time effectively.

You will be expected to plan your own field work schedule and extensive travel arrangements autonomously.

In addition, the following skills/experience will be desirable:

* Experience of Histology assays such as Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and In Situ Hybridisation (ISH)

* Familiarity with Roche Tissue Diagnostics (RTD) products and instrumentation

* Ability to sell and/or demonstrate IVD instrumentation and reagents.
