Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the cutting edge of natural flood risk management on the North West Coast. You will be leading a programme of activity which will shape the future of coastal management.

Your role will be to lead and direct one of the 25 pioneering projects awarded by DEFRA under the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP) to test new approaches to tackle the threat of flooding and improve coastal resilience.

We are looking for a skilled and energetic professional who is a champion for natural flood management.

You will work with a range of partners in local authorities, local NGOs, academia, and consultancy.

You should have experience of;

  • Managing complex projects with multiple work packages
  • Co-ordinating external partnership delivery, contract management and stakeholder engagement
  • Work with Flood Risk Management Authorities.

We are looking for someone with;

  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • The ability to building strong collaborative relationships with external partners
  • Practical understanding of community and landowner engagement
  • Drive, resilience and the commitment to get things done.

This programme, called Ecological Community Owned Coastal Buffer Strips (ECO-CoBS), seeks to;

  • Improve the effectiveness of natural coastal habitats such as sand dunes and saltmarshes to bolster coastal and flood resilience
  • Test innovative approaches including monitoring and practical resilience actions
  • Gather evidence on costs and benefits
  • Share the learning to inform future approaches to flood and coastal risk management.
