RELIEF SUPPORT WORKER, SCOTTISH BORDERS COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Hours: Relief
Salary: £19,266 per annum (part time pro rata) with pay award pending
Contract Type: Relief
Vacancy Ref: 000620
Closing date: Thursday 9 December 2021
As our Borders Community Support team continues to grow, we are looking for Relief Support Workers to join our team! The current salary is £9.50 per hour, with a pay award pending of £10.02 per hour.
The Role
Our Community Support team in the Scottish Borders supports individuals in their own homes and local community. We have services in Galashiels, Melrose, Tweedbank, Hawick, Kelso and Coldstream. The people we support have learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and other mental health support needs.
As a Relief Support Worker, you will provide support with all aspects of daily living and help them maintain their independence at home, including cooking and preparing meals, personal care, administering medication and managing personal finances. You'll be enthusiastic about participating in the things they enjoy, which include swimming, arts and crafts, live music, gaming and knitting, and proactive in supporting them to pursue their interests.
As a Relief Support Worker, you will work on an 'as and when required' basis and are under no obligation to accept shifts - you have the freedom to pick and choose the shifts that work for you! This flexible way of working allows you to fit work around family and home life and is ideal for anyone with commitments that make working a regular shift pattern difficult. We really appreciate the valuable contribution that Relief Support Workers make to the organisation by providing necessary flexibility and just ask that you work at least one shift every three months.
About You
We are looking for people with a real passion to build relationships and positively impact the lives of the people we support. So, whilst it would be beneficial if you have experience in a similar role, this is not essential. What's most important to us is that you can demonstrate the right values and attitude to make a difference. You'll receive all the training and support you need through our award-winning Training Academy, including the opportunity to complete a fully funded SVQ qualification.
As travel will be required throughout the Borders, it is preferable that you hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle. However, this is not essential to be considered.
To be a great Relief Support Worker, you will be:
• a naturally empathetic person with a warm, friendly personality
• able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills
• outgoing with a good sense of humour and a positive can-do attitude
• able to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with different people
• adaptable and able to think on your feet and use your initiative
• competent in the use of technology to enhance the support you provide, e.g. Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Teams
• reliable, flexible and responsive to meet the changing needs of the person we support
Shift Patterns
Our team provides support between the hours of 8.00 am to 7.00 pm, Monday to Friday. If you are successful in joining our team, you should expect to work early split shifts, mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays as part of your rota.
Do you have any questions? Please contact either Ian Brown on or Andrew Will on .
If you're successful in joining our team, you will be expected to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and must be willing to work towards a SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare as required for SSSC registration. We will need you to register with the SSSC within 6 months of starting your employment with us.
