Job description

About the company:

We're a fast growing company with a mission to make banking and insurance fairer for consumers as well as the businesses that serve them. We do that through campaigning, publishing our unique ratings, and by working with companies to make their websites and customer communications clearer.

We are recruiting for a new researcher to join our growing team.

About the Research Team

Fairer Finance's Research Team gathers the market data which underlies our:

  • Product Ratings - These are designed to help consumers choose good quality or good value financial services products.
  • Customer Experience Ratings - These are designed to help consumers find a bank, building society or insurer that offers good service, not just a good rate or price.
  • Research Projects - These look at shining a light on market failures in the financial services industry and often underpin Fairer Finance's campaigns.
  • Insight Reports and commentary - Our research team publish quarterly insight reports analysing the trends in our data. These insights inform our media and policy work as well as our work supporting banks and insurers to deliver better customer outcomes.

Our research team is responsible for keeping all our ratings up to date as well as developing our methodologies. Our ratings are scrutinised by the public, firms and the media alike - so keeping our data accurate is a core part of the role.

All researchers contribute to our quarterly insight reports and write blogs. Each researcher has their own specialism - but collaborates regularly with the wider research team.

Primary responsibilities of the Researcher:

  • Product Ratings
    • Gathering data for our product ratings, including mystery shopping and analysing terms and conditions documents.
    • Liaising with brands and other internal teams in order to conduct data requests.
    • Keeping up to date with market trends and developing our methodologies
  • Customer Experience Ratings
    • Working within the wider research team to conduct our customer experience rating mystery shopping, including getting a firm grip on a range of personal finance products in order to properly analyse firms' transparency.
    • Analysing data from our bi-annual consumer survey
    • Compiling and writing quarterly insight reports, drawing out the trends in the data
    • Ensuring our Insight Portal is kept up-to-date and accurate

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Contributing to our external research reports, including involvement in our policy work and campaigns.
  • Engaging with external queries (from brands to media requests), including putting together short, concise overviews of our data.
  • Writing blog posts for the website using your unique insights as a market expert

Requirements of the Researcher:

Essential:

  • Good knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to write clearly
  • An eye for detail and inquisitive nature
  • Organisation skills, including keeping track of multiple ongoing projects
  • An ability to work well within and across teams.

Desirable:

  • University degree OR experience in a similar role
  • Experience in managing and analysing quantitative data sets
  • Understanding of the personal finance market / consumer issues

Researcher benefits:

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • One extra day of holiday for every year with the business
  • Competitive starting salary with salary reviews every 6 months
  • Company pension scheme upon successful completion of the probationary period
  • Season ticket loan
  • Career Progression and Professional Development
  • Initially based at home, but able to attend the office in central London at least two days a week from later in 2021.

If you meet the requirements for the Researcher role then please apply with your CV and Covering Letter. Your letter should explain why you want to work for Fairer Finance and why you believe you will be suitable for the role.

YOU WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU ATTACH A TAILORED COVERING LETTER.

If your application goes through to next stage of the process you will be asked to take a written test.

Closing date for applications is 23 December 2021. We may carry out interviews before this date as suitable candidates apply.
