School Service Leader
City Year UK believes in the power of young people to change the world. We empower 18-25 year olds to make a difference to pupils from disadvantaged communities, while gaining valuable leadership experience and boosting their own career prospects. We are currently recruiting a School Service Leader for our Greater Manchester and Coventry programme.
Position: School Service Leader
Location: Based in schools in Greater Manchester and Coventry
Hours: 35 hours per week, over a 9-month contract
Salary: £9.50 per hour
Duration: Permanent
Start Date: November - December 2021
Benefits: 43 days of holiday leave (minimum) per annum to be taken during school holidays only, up to 5% pension employer contribution, interest-free loan for season ticket or bicycle, 2 volunteer days per year.
Closing Date: 3 rd December
The Role
As a School Service Leader you will spend your year helping children in schools in disadvantaged communities by acting as a positive role model and near peer mentor. You will provide additional capacity within City Year's school-based teams supporting pupils to improve in their social, emotional and academic achievement. You will encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to help them engage with and enjoy learning. As a School Service Leader you will be well-placed to create meaningful relationships with children who need help to do well at school. You have the chance to bring a new perspective to learning and boost pupils' confidence, while improving behaviour and helping pupils to feel safe, empowered and happy.
The School Service Leader will also provide support to the Volunteer Mentors in school, offering mentoring and coaching advice and ensure that a high quality programme is delivered. You will support the local Impact Officer with the day to day management and support of the team, and work with them to maintain a positive partnership with the school and school leaders. There will also be the opportunity for you to help with the delivery of City Year's Leadership and Development programme.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Assisting with supervision of the volunteer mentors
- Delivering interventions to pupils
- Maintaining a strong partnership with the school
- Preparation and Planning Support
