Job description
''An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Band 4 Healthcare Play Specialist to join our enthusiastic team of Healthcare Play Specialists at St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for 12 months to cover maternity leave, fixed term contract. There is a possibility that this post could be extended. Please note that this post is advertised as full time but part time or job share will also be heavily considered. The post holder will play an integral part in caring for children and young people on the busy paediatric unit and will help to develop play services, support children and young people through procedures and create a welcoming environment.
As part of the play team, you will have the opportunity to expand your skills, access training and be supported in your professional development.
You are required to hold a level 3 Childcare certificate and a recognised Healthcare Play Specialist Qualification or Level 4 Diploma in Specialised Play for Sick Children and Young People.
The successful applicant will need to have experience in using preparation and distraction techniques and have the ability to implement preparation, distraction, normalising/developmental, specialised, sensory and therapeutic play.
The role requires you to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, IT skills, motivation and enthusiasm. You must be able to successfully work independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
Successful applicants will need to be articulate and confident, preferably have one year's experience of working in a hospital setting, be able to engage easily with children/young people, parents/carers and be able to build good working relationships with a larger number of health professionals.
