Teaching Assistant at a School in Southampton specialising in caring for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties

An Ofsted Rated Outstanding, specialist school for girls aged 9 to 16 in Southampton are looking for a Teaching Assistant/Support Assistant to support the social skills, emotional wellbeing and mental health of the students within their school. The school provide an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will be working closely with trained professionals including Psychologists and Therapists and will have the opportunity to shadow their work.

The school provides an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching assistant will be supporting girls who struggle in a mainstream school environment due to low self-esteem and feeling disengaged from schooling. Your role as a Mental Health Support Assistant is to give them an education that is tailored to their individual needs, enabling and empowering them to be the best version of themselves!

This is a small purpose built education hub and registered care home. They are a progressive, compassionate, values-based school with a strong ethos and a highly skilled team who are passionate about what they do. The school use a theraputic and vocational approach to learning to ensure the students are getting the most out of their schoolng. Your priority as a Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will be the children's social, emotional and mental health development.

The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant ideally will have a degree in a related field or experience working with young people. Many of the children have experienced trauma and require someone with resilience and an open-mind to support their mental health challenges.
