Job description

My client is a Cambridgeshire-based robotics company who are developing innovative products with the potential to revolutionise the industry they serve. Due to significant investment and growth we are now actively seeking to recruit two mechanical design engineers to join their in-house team.

This is an exciting time to be joining them as they are expanding across the business and the ongoing development of the next generation of products means that your ideas will turn into a reality.

Based at their site in South Cambridgeshire (approximately 15 minute walk from the local train station), the successful candidates will be working simultaneously on two main projects: the continued build of their current generation of robots; and increasingly focusing on developing the next generation.

Key responsibilities:

Together with the Lead Engineers, you will design, build and test prototypes
Generate documentation including manufacturing drawings and BOMs
Working closely with suppliers and the Manufacturing Team to define SOPs, build documentation and appropriate quality control processes
Drawing controlIdeally applicants should have experience of designing machinery manufactured in medium volume production (50-500 units) such as special purpose machinery manufacturer or within an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Previous experience of sheet metal design or packaging solutions would be beneficial.

In addition, candidates should have the following:

Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering or relevant technical discipline (industrial design, product design, etc).
Design experience for industrial / commercial products where cost, quality and reliability are paramount. Confident users of Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks.
It would be beneficial if you have previous experience of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis and structural finite element analysis (FEA), but not essential.We are keen to find mechanical engineers with a real passion for fine detail and a completer-finisher approach to design. You will need to be self-motivated to solve problems independently, as well as the ability to work in a team and take direction from Lead Engineers.
