HRGO Education are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work with children aged 4 - 16. This role will see you working in a specialist provision with the goal of helping these young students with complex social, emotional & behaviour needs receive the best standard of education possible.As a learning support assistant/teaching assistant you'll work on a group or one-to-one basis with students. This job typically involves supporting students who struggle with behaviour management, or complex special needs. Typically, these particular students in this setting can be physically and verbally abusive.However, the goal of this setting is to re-introduce these students into mainstream settings so you are part of making a real change to a student's life - which can be extremely rewarding.Your job role will include:working with school staff to select students for mentoringdiscussing the aims of mentoring with pupilssupporting pupils inside and outside of the classroomagreeing and writing action plansliaising with teachers, social workers and educational psychologistshelping pupils to increase their confidence and self-esteem by listening to them and devising appropriate strategies.It may be an advantage to have professional qualifications or training in areas such as health, psychology, education, guidance, or youth or social work.You will need to demonstrate a good standard of general education, and you will need Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.Key skills for Learning Support AssistantMaturityInterpersonal skillsListening skillsOrganisational skillsProblem solving skillsCommunication skillsAssertivenessResilienceA non-judgemental approachAbility to relate to young people and act as a role modelQualities and experience we look for:Prior experience working with children or vulnerable adults - perhaps you have worked in schools or a care background before?Qualifications relating to education or medical/care. This could be a manual handling certificate through to a degree in counselling. Income figures are intended as a guide only.This is role will either be a 12 week contract then a permanent contract, or for the right candidate, permanent straight away.Full-time Teaching Assistants usually work between 32 & 35 hours per week. Starting the school day at 8.30am and finishing at 3.30pm with a 30 minute lunch break.All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
