Building Concierge - Temp to Perm
Your new role
The Building Concierge will form part of the Campus Security team, helping to ensure the safety of staff, students and visitors. The role will provide a front line, proactive, professional visible and welcoming concierge \/ security service, preventing unauthorised persons from entering the University buildings and responding to any security incidents as required.
* To provide a 'first class' customer experience to our staff, students and visitors
* To provide an alert, attentive, approachable, professional and welcoming concierge service \/ security presence within the building and its surrounding environs at all times.
* To provide staff, students and visitors with helpful advice, guidance and information and direct all as necessary to the relevant areas of the campus.
* To contribute to the adoption of a pride in place culture within Facilities Management to ensure all staff give their best and are proactive in dealing with issues, to improve the overall customer experience of the facilities on offer at the University.
* Monitor and authorise (where necessary) the entrance and departure of staff, students, visitors and contractors, guarding against theft, and maintaining the security of the University.
* Be the first line response to security incidents on site, guarding primarily against theft and antisocial \/ unruly behaviour, maintaining the safety and security of those persons legitimately using the premises
* To be the first point of contact for evacuations and carry out the investigation and delay procedure for fire alarms and evacuations in all buildings
* Provide first line support to staff and students who may be in distress, and appropriately signpost to University services and eternal agencies (where appropriate).
* To develop a thorough knowledge of the building and all associated entrances \/ exits, in order to respond to emergencies and \/ or incidents effectively.
* Control the security and issuing of keys and passes for areas, ensuring that key protocols are adhered to and escalated if necessary.
* To support and help to facilitate the daily lock down procedure, working with Campus Security\/FM so that the building is cleared effectively at the end of every day, secured and alarmed
* Assist and accompany high profile visitors to ensure the smooth running of the visit and to maintain a positive impression of the university.
* Carry out compliance checks relevant to the role including basic checks to grabs bags, defibrillators, fire alarm tests etc.
* Receive, record and pass on messages to relevant staff, and provide a clear handover between shifts.
* To act as the fire co-ordinator for all buildings outside of core teaching hours
* Deal with a range of challenging situations, enquiries, and complaints in a calm, polite and professional manner, providing solutions where possible
* Hours worked, will be flexible and as required to meet the demands of the business (normally Monday to Friday, however evenings and weekends may need to be worked. On occasion, it may be necessary to work different or extended hours (including evenings and weekends) to support the successful delivery of key events, with individuals being either paid overtime, toil or as part of the operational week.
* The post holder if necessary may be called upon to attend the University campus outside normal working hours in the event of a significant incident or emergency.
What you'll need to succeed
* Current SIA License holder (or currently working towards the accreditation)
* Experience of concierge\/security work in a Higher Education environment (or other relevant sector).
* Experience of working in a customer focussed environment.
* Experience of dealing with challenging situations, as well as telephone and face-to-face enquiries in a professional manner.
* Experience of security and fire alarm and emergency evacuation procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to interact with a wide variety of people at all levels.
* Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
* Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team.
* Ability to demonstrate high levels of customer service at all times.
* A good understanding of good customer care and quality service.
* Excellent understanding of security and emergency procedures.
