Vision for Education is looking to appoint a Student Engagement Mentor to join our successful supply team and work in local schools in Stretford and the Trafford area supporting Looked After Children (LAC) and young people with EHCPs.
The role
Working as part of a dynamic and creative SEND team, the successful Student Engagement Mentor will be responsible for the educational and social development of a cohort of Looked After Children and students with EHCPs under their supervision. This diverse role needs a patient, calm and empathetic person, who also has the ability to engage young people and motivate them to achieve.
The successful Student Engagement Mentor will be responsible for the educational development of a cohort of LAC and students with an EHCP (Key Stage 1 - Key Stage 4) under your supervision within Stretford and the Trafford area. Mentoring sessions can range from one hour or a full school day (within school hours or after school) depending on the student's timetable and capabailities. The roles are based across primary and secondary schools who are looking for a committed and successful Student Engagement Mentor to join their motivated team. The SENCOs and Designated Teachers for LAC in the schools are highly supportive, and parental/carer involvement is very positive. Within the role of Learning Mentor, you would liaise with the school regarding the student's progress and consider intervention sessions outside the classroom. In class support may be required for named students during re-integration into mainstream school or alternative provision. Sessions would also link directly with the classroom teacher.
Key responsibilities:
• Assisting students to complete tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest,
• Support students in the classroom,
• Assist teachers in lessons to maintain pace, motivation and challenge,
• Helping students to acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught.
Requirements
To be considered for the Student Engagement Mentor position and achieve this salary, you will:
• Be able to work on a flexible basis with pupils within small groups or on a one to one basis to build positive, professional relationships and help children overcome barriers to learning.
• Have experience dealing with challenging and oppositional behaviour whether this be in an educational, residential or youth setting,
• Be able to work in Stretford and the Trafford area
• Have knowledge of working with Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) to help you in your work to steer pupils on the right path.
• Have a genuine desire to become part of a committed team of school staff.
