What you need to know about the role

This exciting opportunity will see you lead the mechanical engineering aspects of the organisation whilst setting standards and determining strategy for safety, maintenance and investment.

This is an important role within the company as it establishes and directs policy and strategy for our plants relating to mechanical engineering and is the final reference and technical authority on all such matters. Ensuring compliance with all statutory legislation, business policies, regulations and standards throughout the implementation of the design, construction and operation where applicable is paramount as safety is our number one priority.

Attracting and retaining talented Engineers for the future is a key part of the role and you will facilitate the IMechE professional accreditation scheme and be responsible for employee and graduate development.

Providing figurehead leadership for mechanical professionals across the business makes this a challenging and rewarding role in a company that employs a wide range of technologies in numerous process plants.

What we need to know about you

We are looking for a strong leader, someone with significant experience as a qualified mechanical engineer and also experience at mid/senior management level. You need to be capable of managing and directing a team of senior engineers employed to manage all aspects of mechanical engineering.

Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering or associated degree, you should also be a chartered member of the appropriate professional institution. In addition, we're looking for someone who has proven experience in handling multi-disciplined resources and a large task portfolio, wide knowledge of the steel business or other heavy industry together with a working knowledge of contracting and engineering activities.

You need to have a broad knowledge of engineering, process operations and project management to enable you to establish strategies and policies and be aware of emerging technologies, equipment and direction in the markets in order to gain commercial advantage for the business.
