Your new role

The primary responsibility of this role is to implement & support the big-data platforms. You will have close engagement with the broader team and with business stakeholders within Networks in order to support and maintain products and services.
You will work within a Platform Operations team to deliver and support innovative big-data based security products to our customers, and bring with you technical knowledge and expertise in your field to help develop best-in-class products and services

You'll have the following responsibilities:Ensure that applications remain available and operational, restoring service in the event of issues or incidents. You will be responsible for defining, documenting, and improving support processes for services and applications; implementing automation where possible. You will make recommendations to a Specialist or Expert Software Engineer regarding technical problem resolution. You will be developing technical specialism in one or more area as well as providing technical guidance to more junior engineers and analytical and innovative input into projects. You will be managing complex issues with external suppliers, internal development teams and management.You will be accountable for platform change management and for the design or design validation testing of the IT components of platforms or customer solutions.

What you'll need to succeed

Expertise in at least two of:

- Big Data platform support and development including stream and batch processing
- Big Data platform support\/operations
- Working in a platform operations team

A demonstrated practitioner of agile development practices\/Platform Operations.
Preferred - Experience with various automation techniques.

Skills:

Skilled in one or more scripting or programming languages, eg Linux scripting, Python, Scala or Java
Experienced in the design, build & operation of big-data platforms at scale.
Able to take a concept from design through to development and testing.
Understanding of the technologies and services that underpin big-data software capabilities written in Python, Scala & Java.
Familiarity with the test and release workflow for CI\/CD.
Experience working across a Big Data platform (Cloudera\/Hortonworks etc.)
Proficient in using Linux systems
Practical experience working with a variety of data-store technologies (i.e. Elastic, HDFS)
Experience with Oracle (preferable)
