Job description

Norwich Medical School

Research Associate (East of England SCETCH Trial) (0.8fte, fixed term from 1 January 2022 to 15 October 2023)

Ref: RA1919

£27,116 to £33,309 per annum, pro rata

We are seeking to appoint a part-time (0.8fte) Research Associate to assist with the day to day running of the East of England arm of a cluster randomised controlled trial which aims to explore the effects of e-cigarettes vs usual care for smoking cessation when offered at homeless centres. The study is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Public Health Research Programme. The post holder will work as part of a team alongside Professor Caitlin Notley (PI for the East of England site), closely supervised by Dr Emma Ward, Research Fellow (Senior Researcher for the East of England), and supported by a team of experts in smoking cessation, working with vulnerable populations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the set-up of the study, working with homeless centres in the East of England, advertising for and recruiting participants, collecting, entering and storing data and liaising with the clinical trial manager, co-investigators, and other researchers. The post holder must have experience of contributing to research projects. A process evaluation will be embedded in the research project so some knowledge of qualitative methodology is desirable. An understanding of smoking cessation methods and previous experience of working with disadvantaged groups would be advantageous. We welcome applications for secondment from third sector organisations. We will also consider applications for job shares.

This research role will enable flexible and remote working, as required, in line with the UEA Athena Swan initiative, and to conform to UEA policies on remote working due to social distancing and safety measures. The role will also entail some travel to collect data from homeless centres, following safety protocols.

This post is available from 1 January 2022 on a part-time (0.8fte) basis for a fixed term period to 15 October 2023 and will be subject to a criminal record check at enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Closing date: 29 November 2021
