H9 are looking to hire for an Environmental & Quality Manager to work with a National waste recycling client in Scotland
Role Overview
The Environmental & Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring the client and their Quality Management Systems are maintained and legally compliant across the business. This Manager will also drive improvements across these disciplines by raising awareness and providing appropriate guidance and training across the organisation.
Role & Responsibilites
* To ensure the Company's Environmental and Quality policies and procedures are prepared, implemented and adhered to across the organisation. This includes the requirements stipulated by the management system accreditations.
* Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the sites' Environmental Agency inspectors.
* Manage the Company's ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 accreditations.
* Plan, chair, and minute the Company's Management Review meetings, whilst ensuring compliance with the requirements of the standards.
* Investigate and manage complaints and Environmental Incidents appropriately and effectively.
* In conjunction with the senior management team, develop short, medium, and long term improvement plans, programmes, and targets in order to manage legal compliance and drive continual improvement of the management system.
* Assess business risks arising from Environmental indicators and prepare risk profiles, (aspects and impacts) relating to the Company's operations, and develop objectives, targets and management programmes.
* Develop and implement Environmental best practices across a range of projects & processes.
* Liaise closely with the sites to identify and analyse both recurring and unique issues, and offer and provide guidance and solutions to the plant management teams.
* Identify potential risks to the business from an environmental perspective considering short, medium and long term scenarios, develop strategies and give guidance to mitigate the risks.
* In conjunction with the plant management teams ensure that the service providers engaged are providing an effective service. Work with these providers collaboratively to identify and remedy any potential issues.
* To keep abreast of Environmental legislation / industry news and upcoming changes, and ensure the senior management team and all managers are appropriately advised on changes to legislative requirements.
* Monitor through inspections, audits, and safety tours the effectiveness of the Environmental and Quality management system and drive continual improvement of procedures and work practices.
* Ensure all statutory inspections and reports that are required are completed on time and records are accurate and up to date.
* Ensure Company-wide compliance with the Environmental Agency operating licence (IPPC Permit) through monitoring and reporting.
* Ensure that Environmental Monitoring is carried out in line with the requirements of the plant permits and any other legislation.
* Ensure that quality indicators are maintained across the business and that quality standards are embedded across the organisation.
* Prepare regular reports on Environmental and Quality performance for the senior management team and liaise with relevant authorities as necessary.
* Assist in the identification of training needs for employees and develop and deliver training as required across the Quality and Environmental disciplines.
* Facilitate external certification audits.
* Manage the internal audit programme, including resolution of any identified non conformities.
* Report any notifiable Emissions breaches to the relevant authorities and senior management team.
* Ensure consistency of the Laboratory service is maintained, with all testing up to date and recorded and make recommendations to work practices and procedure improvement.
* In liaison with the General Manager, ensure suitable and sufficient training of plant management to fulfil their duties to ensure best practice and compliance with Company Environmental and Quality management systems.
* Maintain the online Risk Manager software employed by the company (T100).
* Identify and manage initiatives which add commercial value to the business (analysing data and looking for trends).
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with all departments.
Education & Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years' experience.
* A member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
* A relevant professional qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or NVQ equivalent.
* Extensive knowledge of ISO Management standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
* Extensive knowledge of Environmental legislation and best practice.
* Educated to Degree Level in a relevant discipline (Sciences, Engineering, Environmental) and/or relevant experience
* Good working knowledge of waste to energy
* Holds appropriate professional qualification such as ISO lead auditor, OHSAS Chartered Environmentalist
