Job description

The starting salary for a full-time, 36-hour/week role is £40,227 plus an annual AMHP supplement of £1,500.

The Forensic Social Care Team within the Adult Social Care directorate at Surrey County Council, is seeking to appoint a permanent Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).

Location: Forensic Social Care Team (co-located with FOLS SABP), Unither House, Curfew Bell Road, Chertsey, KT16 9FG - but county wide with agile working.

There is a possibility for an additional 2-years' fixed term AMHP position for someone to lead on the ASD agenda.

About the service

About the role

The role is based in the forensic social care team in mental health. We work in partnership with FOLS (Forensic Outreach Liaison Service) and FIND (Forensic Intellectual and Neurodevelopmental Disorder Service). You will be responsible for working with a caseload of complex service users who have mental health and/or who have committed serious crimes. You will perform statutory duties in line with the Care Act 2014, and Mental Health Act 1983. Additionally, you will undertake the role of Social Supervisor to those who have been detained subject to a restriction order under the Mental Health Act 1983, for which full training will be given. You will be expected to contribute to the AMHP rota.

About you

To be shortlisted for an interview your application and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • Professional qualification in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England
  • Successful completion of an ASYE programme if qualified as a social worker after June 2012
  • Willing to maintain personal Approved Mental Health Professional status (Warranted)
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant post qualifying experience, including working with complex case management and experience working with service users with mental health needs
  • Experience or knowledge of working with restricted clients
  • A full driving licence and have use of a vehicle insured for work/business purposes is essential
  • A working knowledge of current legislation, assessments, preparation of care plans, undertaking placement reviews, monitoring and reviewing outcomes
  • Commitment to your own professional development, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of mental health issues
