Job description

The salary for this role is £24,780 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

We are looking for Residential Workers to join our team who are creative, playful and able to build meaningful relationships with our young people. As well as this, you will be super positive, hugely empathic, and committed to encouraging individuality, promoting confidence and increasing self-esteem whilst also managing some challenging behaviours. You will be working with young people who have experienced trauma that can have an impact on their emotional and mental wellbeing and is communicated via several means, including self-harming behaviours. Therefore, you will need to have some experience of working with children and an understanding of some of the complex issues faced by children in care. You will need to be resilient and have a good sense of humour!

If you have not had experience of working in a children's residential home before, we can give you the training you need. Most importantly, we are looking for people who are committed and able to be positive role models who understand the importance of giving our young people the best life chances possible. You will also be enthusiastic, reliable, and flexible in your approach to work as hours worked are on a rota basis. You will be prepared to work waking night shifts, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep ins.

We can accommodate young people up to eighteen years of age. Due to legal requirements set out by the DFE national minimum standards, the successful applicant is required to be at least four years older than our oldest resident. Therefore, the minimum age for application for this position needs to be twenty-two years.

We are committed to on-going professional development and offer a wide range of training courses that support staff to learn and develop skills throughout their employment.

As a Residential Worker you will:

  • Interact and build relationships with young people
  • Co-ordinate, promote and engage in activities with young people
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of care plans for individual children
  • Maintain good communications and continuity of work practice within the home
  • Write reports
  • Complete a Level 3 qualification Diploma/NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care within 2 years of your start date in this role.

  • Competency in Maths and English sufficient to be able to work towards the Level 3 Diploma
  • Ability and preparedness to recognise and deal appropriately with conflict
  • Awareness of the existence and effects of social disadvantage and discrimination

  • A positive, adaptable, confident, resilient and self-aware approach to work
  • A committed and flexible attitude
  • That you have a valid driving licence.
