Job description

The role:

To meet our vision of achieving far-reaching, progressive change and impact through learning, we are seeking to appoint a motivated and flexible individual to manage the team of Learning Support Assistants at our Merrist Wood campus.

Group Learning Support works with young people who face barriers to education, including learners with special educational needs and those with an EHCP. This post provides an excellent opportunity for someone with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students and providing the support needed in order to ensure that they can achieve.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be responsible for the co-ordination and day to day supervision of the Learning Support Assistants Team
  • Be responsible for the recruitment of LSAs
  • Conduct appraisals, agree Performance Management Objectives and complete the observation process for the LSA team in line with the College policy, identifying themes to inform CPD and putting appropriate interventions in place where professional development needs have been identified
  • Ensure that LSAs are recording progress against EHCP outcomes/targets for the learners they are supporting by carrying out regular sample audits of the information recorded in conjunction with the Team Leader

What do you need to be successful?

The successful candidate will demonstrate a co-operative working style and experience of managing a team of staff. Significant knowledge of a wide range of learning difficulties, disabilities and behavioural needs is required in order to effectively develop the team. The ability to cope with a demanding workload is essential alongside competent ICT skills.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly organised and be a good listener. The ideal candidate will be resilient, responsible and able to multitask.You will also possess the ability to respond to change positively and to show flexibility in a pressured environment. First Aid training and further qualifications are desirable, such as in learning support or management.

This is a full-time position 37 hours a week, 08:30 - 17:00, with a 16:30 finish on a Friday and is not a term-time only role. The team also includes a Senior LSA who supports the LSA Coordinator in their role.
