Job description

The starting salary for this role is £45,734 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

The Highways Operations & Infrastructure group in the Highways and Transport Service provide excellent customer service and this is embraced to ensure that customers are at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for a Stakeholder Manager who can actively engage with a variety of stakeholders about sometimes complex highway issues and to translate this technical information into clear prioritised proposals. Sometimes highway schemes meet some resistance, even if prioritised by a local community. This role gives the opportunity to calmly influence to turn around opinion to give a positive outcome.

This role is based out of Merrow Complex, Merrow Lane, Merrow, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ or in an agile way from any SCC office facility. The role could require working outside of normal office hours to attend Local or Joint Committees.

The Stakeholder Manager role is a challenging opportunity to lead a small team that will actively engage with County Councillors, District and Parish Councils, Residents, and other stakeholders about highway project priorities.

As part of the new Highway Engagement & Commissioning team you will be the lead point of contact for County Councillors and local committees. Dedicated Engagement Officers in your team will work with County Councillors and other stakeholders to better understand needs of an area, which will influence the work of the various engineering teams.

You will need to be a great communicator, with a passion for challenging conversations as well as an advocate of doing things differently as we would like to improve the service that we offer.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who can make a valuable contribution towards highway stakeholder engagement. You will have achieved a Degree or equivalent, or an equivalent level of experience in customer facing services. To manage this key area of work, we are looking for someone who is confident to lead and support a small team as part of a larger team.

To be shortlisted for interview your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:

  • A high standard of communication, presentation, organisation, and IT skills.
  • A proven ability to engage with County Councillors and other stakeholders, including using Stakeholder Management Plans.
  • Confidence in dealing with a wide selection of customers and striving for Customer Service Excellence
  • Ability to manage workloads and deal with conflicting priorities
  • Excellent Team Leader skills and able to motivate, coach, mentor and develop colleagues

Due to the nature of the role, a full driving licence is essential.
