Mechanical Development Engineer / Mechanical R&D
A privately-owned scientific instrument company designing and manufacturing a range of instrumentation are looking for a Mechanical Development Engineer to join their Development and Specials team in Surrey. Their products are used for research in many universities and by some of the world's most innovative scientific organisations.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Development Team Leader, you will primarily be involved with the identification and investigation of the root cause of issues and will deliver engineered solutions with a focus on supporting products already in production.
You will assist with the design and development of Specials, custom OEM and one-off bespoke products for customers.
Part of the role will also include taking existing prototypes from a design stage and into production.
Responsibilities include creating and modifying drawings and BOMs, 3D models and engineering documentation, modifying existing products or processes, prototyping, testing, and implementing these to increase efficiency, performance & quality.
Qualifications / skills required
Essential
A relevant mechanical engineering qualification to degree level or similar.
At least 3-5+ years professional experience in an engineering environment.
Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Solid Edge but not essential, and be able to produce 2D technical drawings.
Experience working with Bills of Materials within an ERP system, ideally Microsoft NAV.
Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work as part of a team.
Good understanding of complex product structures including BOMs, electro-mechanical drive systems and sensors.
Good understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques including CNC milling and turning, investment casting, plating, electro-mechanical assembly, and testing with a robust understanding of design for manufacture.
Hard working, methodical, self-motivated and with a good eye for detail.
Independent project and time management, ability to work to tight deadlines.
Work efficiently in the team with collaboration across all departments.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel etc
