Job description

We are looking for a dynamic sports coach to join the team who is excited by variety and challenge, with a passion to change young people's lives for the better. You will deliver on a variety of programmes particularly the female cohorts of Street Elite. You will help recruit vulnerable inner city young women who have issues such as poor mental health or low self-esteem or troubled relationship history. You will use a variety of sport and fitness activities to engage the women and through weekly sessions following a set programme develop their life skills . The programme then develops with a community activity and a work placement. The programme is highly successful as over 80 % of the participants progress to employment training or education. You will be a keen sports player with great hand eye coordination skills and whilst you may specialise in one sport you must be able to adapt to running sessions using a wide variety of sports such as netball, dodgeball, football, table tennis, fencing and NFL flag. You will receive training in how to coach these sports. As important is an ability to understand, empathise and then challenge and support young women to make positive changes in their lives.

You can work be based home or from our HQ sports ground in Wallington Surrey. You will need to travel daily to deliver sessions at various locations in London.

Role purpose:

To deliver high impact sport for social change programmes for girls and young women combining coaching, mentoring and youth work for a charity that thinks differently about sport.

Key responsibilities:

Delivering The Change Foundation's Street Elite programme specifically the female cohorts.
Delivering on other programmes such as Girls Win, Generation STORM and Netball 4 Change
Mentoring girls and young women on The Change Foundation's programmes.
Recruiting girls and young women onto The Change Foundation's women and girls' programmes.
Developing relationships with referral agencies, local authorities, youth groups and other stakeholders to create a recruitment network for vulnerable young women and girls.

Person specification:

You are a solution focussed coach with a track record of delivering sport for social change programmes. You will understand the sport for development sector and feel comfortable working in a dynamic and active team. A self-starter full of energy and enthusiasm who is flexible and patient. You have a strong belief and commitment to equal opportunities and social inclusion.

Essential criteria:

Level 2 sports coaching qualification
At least two years' experience coaching young people
Ability to develop successful relationships with young people from different backgrounds
Ability to teach key transferable skills through sport
Ability to develop training plans and session plans
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent administration skills

Project management skills
Passionate and committed to providing more opportunities for vulnerable young people to help them fulfil their potential
Desire to add value to a dynamic team
Willingness to think innovatively and try new ideas to help young people reach their potential
