Job Profile SummaryArchitecture is a collaborative discipline, and it plays a critical role in the integration of our businesses. Architects connect all the digital disciplines and the consumers and procurers of IT, in order to create an integrated, flexible, effective IT architecture for bp.

In bp Trading & Shipping (T&S), Refined & Products Trading Operations (RPT Ops), the next few years will see the implementation of multi-millions and multi-years digital programmes which will span across T&S RPT, our Midstream and Shipping businesses. You will also hold a key role in interfacing our systems of records with our VAKT post-trade platform.

You would lead those programmes developing solution architectures, seeking practical solutions that optimize and re-use capabilities. You will care passionately about the integrity of the Digital capabilities you develop. You will be responsible for designing and building solutions that best meet the business needs and are aligned with the Digital strategy and roadmaps.

You would be interacting with senior business leaders and I&E leaders briefing them about solutions and advising on the architecture roadmaps. You would be leading technical architects on technology and designing the implementation components. You would be accountable for the architecture governance for RPT Operations and all the programmes under that portfolio.

You would have a solid current technical background and had in the past been hands-on in key technologies. You would have demonstrated an ability to rapidly assess new technologies with a commercial mindset.

Relationships: You will build strong relationships across the business and Digital teams. You will understand the long-term needs of the solutions you are developing, and enable delivery by building a rapport with team members both inside and outside of bp.

Formal Education
A Bachelor's (or higher) degree, ideally in Computer Science, MIS/IT, Mathematics, hard science, or equivalent work experience.

Desirable criteria

• A confirmed background in architecture with real-world experience of architecting, designing, and delivering transformational digital projects. You love envisaging the art of the possible and making that a reality.
• Deep-seated functional knowledge of key technology sets. You are comfortable getting involved and diving into delivery challenges.
• Experience in being part of a tight-knit delivery team. You accomplish exceptional project outcomes in a respectful and supportive culture.
• A proven grasp of architecture development and design thinking in an agile environment. You adapt delivery techniques to drive outstanding project delivery.
• The ability to relate complex topics in simple and accessible language.

Essential Skills

• At least 10 years of experience in a formal Solution Architecture role within a large global/matrixed companies, software house or consultancy.
• Experience of Cloud Solutions Architecture - ideally AWS and Azure.
• Experience of loosely coupled modern application/microservice architectures and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience of composing digital products comprised of SaaS, partner ecosystem and corporate system components.
• Experience in integration architecture and all its related patterns including API, Event-based, message-based and service-based patterns.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to present complex concepts to different stakeholders including senior leadership as well as DevOps teams.
• Thrives in a fast-paced and evolving commercial and technical environment.
• Demonstrates a growth mindset, curiosity and continuous learning.
  

Desirable Skills

• Direct experience working with, or integrating with Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) platforms.
• Formal knowledge of Architecture frameworks and their pragmatic application in programmes.
