Your part in our journey:
We are looking for a Risk Analyst to join the Energy Pricing & Cost Forecasting team. This is a new role and an exciting time to join the team as you will be responsible for shaping how Shell Energy manages all aspects of risk relating to the costs associated with the generation of gas and electricity tariffs. Working closely with the team to understand our existing processes, you will then develop and build on these to ensure any exposure to risk is limited. Also working in collaboration with Demand Forecasting and Trading, you will ensure strong relationships are developed over time.
Drawing on your previous knowledge and experience of statistical analysis and modelling, develop a suite of reports for the Senior Leadership team highlighting key risks of existing hedging strategies, traded volume and wholesale price exposure. It is therefore essential that you have a strong background in Excel, SQL, Python or R and preferably Tableau.
Your part in the team:
Ensure suitable systems and models are in place to monitor and report any likely exposure and risk for traded/untraded energy volumes and price
Assess existing hedging strategies and provide recommendations on how to optimise trading depending on current market fundamentals
Continuous evaluation and statistical modelling of risk premia to ensure these remain fit for purpose
Develop an understanding of energy supply cost charging, keeping up to date with changes in regulatory, network and policy charging
Ongoing review and reporting of Value at Risk (VaR)
Utilise you existing knowledge of analytical and statistical methods to create models that assess wholesale market risk
Manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Senior Leadership team
Take the lead and ownership of creating a suite of Management Information reporting and KPI's
Working within Shell Energy's existing reporting framework, utilise advanced technical knowledge to develop insights into wholesale markets and third party charges
Experience in delivering high quality data analysis, translating data into true commercial impacts within a business and the ability to articulate complex results clearly and concisely to senior leaders
What you'll need to help you make the best of the role:
Ideally a background within the energy industry but not essential
Broad numerical background with strong experience of complex statistical modelling
Great with numbers and confident dealing with large datasets
Knowledge of database management, Excel, SQL and Python/R
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to break down complex information and present this back in a clear and concise manner
Experience in complex data visualisation
Confident in your own knowledge and skills, which you will use to form strong relationships within the business
The ability to extract and present key data and insights
Exceptional attention to detail
A self-starter, highly organised and effective at managing multiple tasks
