Wood has an opportunity for an experienced geoenvironmental Assistant Consultant or Consultant within our dynamic and growing organisation, which has a market leading pedigree, with the breadth and scale of projects and specialists to challenge and develop you.
Wood is looking for a motivated, highly skilled and solution focused person to join and contribute to one of the largest and most successful risk assessment, remediation, and ground engineering teams in the UK/Europe. We are involved in many key projects of regional and national significance, which we deliver alongside our core UK and global framework projects.
This role would ideally be based in our Leamington Spa or Shrewsbury offices but with travel across the UK and overseas for specific projects or longer-term assignments. However, our other UK offices could also be considered for the right candidate. Flexible working options are available including hybrid (mixed office and remote) working.

Key Responsibilities
- Site work including supervision of geoenvironmental ground investigations and sub-contractor management
- Field work including soil logging and environmental sampling and monitoring and geotechnical testing
- Preparation of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports and remediation options appraisals and verification reports
- Support with ground investigation scope and design
- Preparation of project HSSE plans and method statements
- Data review and analysis
- Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with procedures and processes and to the highest quality and safety, health and environmental standards
Skills / Qualifications
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. geology, engineering, chemistry, environmental science or similar)
- A higher degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. contaminated land, engineering geology, environmental science, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering or similar), is desirable
- Working towards / be prepared to work towards Chartership with a relevant institution
Experience
- Experience in the preparation of Phase 1 contaminated land/geoenvironmental desk studies
- Knowledge of the requirements in planning, designing and management of contaminated land and geoenvironmental ground investigations
- Experience of made ground and superficial deposits field logging
- Working knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application to safe design and implementation of ground investigations
- Understanding of the land contamination regime within the UK with regard to current and future use of a site, development planning, environmental permitting and due diligence
- Understanding of the risk-based approach to the assessment of land contamination
- Report writing including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner
- Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS/QGIS is desirable
Skills / Attributes
- Full UK driving licence
- Be willing to travel and spend periods of time away on site based projects across the UK and overseas for specific projects or longer-term assignments
- Communicate effectively, listen and engage, including communicating technical information
- Ability to innovate and develop in your technical area and to continually seek to improve performance in all aspects of your role
- On site leadership of ground investigation and other similar field works
- Work collaboratively within a team and provide mentoring to develop colleagues
- Demonstrate logical and independent thinking
