The Chief Medical Officers will both form part of the Board of Directors, sharing responsibility and accountability for all aspects of performance, including meeting the Terms of Authorisation as an NHS Trust, and operating in accordance with the compliance regime established by Care Quality Commission.

The Chief Medical Officers will advise the Board on professional medical matters from a local, regional and national perspective, working with the Chairman, the Chief Executive and the other Directors.

The Chief Medical Officers executive responsibilities include leadership of clinical governance (including quality and safety), clinical risk management and directing the quality of clinical services provided for patients.

The Chief Medical Officers will also hold a clinical role within the Trust, and will undertake some clinical work, the exact amount to be agreed. The Chief Medical Officers may undertake clinical on-call duties as part of their clinical role.

This position is for Chief Medical Officer (CMO) role at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will work closely with other WHCT Trust Executives and non-executive Directors, and also with executives at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust under both Trusts shared leadership of CEO and Chairman. The post-holder will also work alongside CMOs and other clinical leaders in the Black Country West Birmingham ICS, and also represent the Trust regionally and when necessary nationally.
