Job description

THE COMPANY
Our client, an established Dudley based manufacturing business, require a Senior Design Engineer for a Permanent contract. It is preferable that you have experience designing heavy industrial equipment integrating combustion, fluid power mechanics and thermal dynamics applications. The role would be filling a team leader position and will have overall responsibility of the design process working closely with the Project Manager and Chief Mechanical Engineer. This will also include working with the electrical and automation teams to ensure the overall design integrates all engineering facets.
THE ROLE
The main duties of the Senior Design Engineer include; provision of internal design consultancy to all Engineering departments, production of detailed design set outs (together with all associated calculations to prove the viability of the design) for use by draughtsmen in producing detailed drawings, all drawings to be completed using Inventor/AutoCAD and its associated products, detailing engineering drawings of heavy mechanical handling equipment, design calculations using Excel, Mathcad and by hand, as necessary, introduction of standard, computerised, calculations using Mathcad, production of clear sequence of operations including all sensing /actuation devise operation (Functional Design Specifications) using MS Word, liaison with other departments to produce viable designs/operating equipment, preparation of requisitions and other documentation, visits to clients and suppliers for inspection / discussions, testing of equipment on customers and supplier's premises to ensure compliance with specifications, assisting the Sales Department in production of quotations, production of design costings/budgets, production of costings for complete design, able to design within budget or provide reasons why budget is not achievable, production of timing plans for production of equipment using MS Project, production of descriptions for use in operating manuals, supervision of all aspects of draughtsmen's activities in producing drawings to your designs, liaison with suppliers to ensure progress and quality of work is satisfactory, liaison with Customers to ensure that they are aware of the design and their aspirations are taken into consideration to ensure that equipment conforms to both Companies requirements, management of contracts. You will be committed, a good communicator and above all you will be hard working.
REQUIREMENTS
Skills and experience required of the Senior Design Engineer; designing heavy industrial equipment, methodical and organised in approach to workload, supervision, customer service, budget management, clear communication within and outside the business, MS Word, Mathcad and Inventor/AutoCAD. The role is office-based, with occasional visits to customers and suppliers as necessary at home and abroad, and for varying lengths of time, often working to time deadlines, so after-hours and weekend work will be required.
