Design Engineer - Civil Engineering - Hybrid Working (3 in office/ 2WFH)

A key client of ours has reached out with the need for a Design Engineer to join their thriving Engineering business division. The division itself offers engineering services support to the wider business acting as internal consultants and also design and design checking services for a full range of temporary works requirements from excavations and working platforms to formwork, falsework and scaffolding.

Job Title: Design Engineer
Summary of job: A Design Engineer is a key role within the Engineering team providing engineering support throughout the Construction Division requiring an enthusiastic civil or structural engineer with good communication skills and previous design experience.
Salary: up to £40,000 plus package
Location: Solihull (Flexibility on where candidate is based as long as travel to Solihull is achievable 2/3 days a week)
Projects: Temp works, Civil Engineering
Contractor: Tier 1 Main Contractor

Purpose of the role:
The role will report to a Senior Design Engineer and will interface with a range of stakeholders throughout the Construction & Investments Division at the pre-construction and construction stages of projects. The role will also interface with external stakeholders including consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

The Engineering Services team is an in-house team providing engineering support to the whole of the wider Construction Division. The services provided by Central Engineering Team include alternative solutions, value engineering, buildability and problem/defect resolution including specification compliance issues. The team also provides design and design checking services for a full range of temporary works requirements from excavations and working platforms to formwork, falsework & scaffolding.
Key Responsibilities of the role as Design Engineer:

- Production of safe, innovative and cost effective temporary works designs.
- Completion of all work on time and within agreed fee proposals.
- Development of innovative value engineering and alternative solutions to improve safety & competitiveness.
- Attend meetings and site visits to discuss Engineering team services for specific tenders and projects.
- Where necessary assist in the production of design briefs.
- Prepare and/or check design calculations by other members of the Engineering team or by external design organisations.
- Produce and/or supervise the production of drawings, schedules etc. based on the results of design calculations.
- Ensure that designs and design checks are completed on time and within fee estimates.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with CDM 2015 so that the necessary standards of Safety, Quality & Environmental Management are achieved.
- Take a proactive approach to own Continuing Professional Development and the Continuing Professional Development of others to maintain and advance own technical capability and that of the Engineering team as a whole.

You as a candidate:

- Civil or Structural Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Good knowledge of Structural mechanics and fundamentals of soil mechanics
- Previous Design experience
- Computer literate
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good oral and written skills
- Good time management skills
- Enthusiastic, conscientious and good attention to detail
