ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Day Support Chemist to join our Technical team at our Rotherham site. The Day Support Chemist will provide wet chemical analysis and other related duties for Speciality Steels and its customers. The Chemist will support the laboratory management team in the development of new methods and techniques in both the shift and day lab areas, as appropriate.

The Day Support Chemist will carry out the chemical analysis by instrumental and classical means, for those elements that the on-line automated laboratory at Rotherham cannot analyse with the necessary accuracy and precision at the detection limits required.

The Day Support Chemist will operate as part of a team in providing a rapid precise and accurate analytical service to the production areas under severe time constraints, and a product analysis service to down stream mills and remelt facilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Day Support Chemist will be responsible for:

* Routine operation and maintenance of the equipment used for the analytical methods, and to monitor all analytical equipment and procedures for anomalies to ensure performance meets specified requirements.

* Ensuring all activities are carried out to the required safety standards and to assist in their development and implementation.

* Maintaining the records associated with the analytical data generated, so that it meets external and internal customer quality assurance requirements, primarily through ISO17025 and NADCAP

* Assisting in the update of all documentation following equipment/methodology modifications, including all relevant QA documentation, risk assessments, safe working procedures, and training documentation.

* Assisting the Section Chemist with administrative tasks to aid in maintaining the provision of an analytical services.

REQUIRED SKILLS

The Day Support Chemist will have:

* Previous experience of working in analytical laboratories.

* Previous experience of the analysis techniques used in the role, both instrumental and classical.

* A high degree of self-motivation and initiative.

* Qualifications to ONC/HNC or degree level are preferred, ideally in Chemistry or related disciplines.
