Quantity Surveyor - Civils/Groundworks

Shanco Contracts provides groundwork and civil engineering services, covering the UK, from our offices in Castleford, West Yorkshire. We deliver groundworks packages in a wide range of industry sectors, covering new build projects for schools and universities, hospitals and care homes, modular builds and manufacturing sites.

Due to an incredible company performance in 2021, and a sustained period of growth, we are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to compliment our high performing commercial team. Based in our head office in Castleford, as the Quantity Surveyor you will be preparing and processing quotations, bids and tenders within client deadlines as well as managing and negotiating the subcontract tender process, including estimating, the selection of subcontractors, and provision of all relevant contract and schedule documentation.

Requirements

We are not big on hierarchy, and as such you will be given full autonomy to take commercial responsibility of all aspects of the groundworks package, on projects from £100k-£3m. You'll need to be capable of undertaking the management of a variety of projects simultaneously and manage all costs relating to each project from initial award to final account.

In this job you will be tasked with the following:

Submission of applications to client Quantity Surveyor and building good client relationships

- Pricing and agreeing Variations

- Appointment and management of sub-contractors including placement of subcontractor orders and agreement of payment terms

- Regular coordination with site teams, including site visits, to ensure all relevant site information is collected/collated

- Producing risk / opportunity register for new projects

- Agreeing payment dates/certs/final accounts with clients

- Cost Value Reports

We want to hear from a Quantity Surveyor with relevant experience of estimating/tendering, contract administration, within the groundworks or civil engineering industry.

In addition, you'll need the following:

- Min. 5 years experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within groundworks / civils

- Technical knowledge of construction processes - must have groundworks experience

- High attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure

- Communication skills and work well in a small close knit team

Benefits

The role is permanent, working 8:00am-5.30pm, albeit we do ask for some flexibility with working hours, and often we finish early on Fridays.
