Our Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduate Scheme offers world-class training and access to some of the biggest engineering projects in Britain. It's also aligned to UK-SPEC objectives and accredited by the IET. Through rotational placements you'll gain a real insight into how Network Rail works. You'll learn from industry experts, be able to share your experiences with other graduates also on the scheme, and develop a sought-after skill set that will set you up for life.

Overview

Your starting salary is £26,500 (including regional allowances where relevant) plus a £2,000 welcome bonus.

The scheme lasts for two years with a further two years monitored support.

There are opportunities available in: Basingstoke, Birmingham, Crawley, Sheffield, Derby, Gateshead, Glasgow, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Leeds, Peterborough, Swindon and York.

You'll also need a degree of flexibility and not mind occasionally travelling to attend training opportunities at various locations.

What you'll be doing matters

Get ready for exciting challenges and diverse experiences from day one. Rotating through four placements you'll soon discover why Network Rail is the single biggest consumer of electricity and one of the largest telecoms providers in Britain.

You'll explore renewable energy technologies and smart substation solutions. You'll help to make our electricity supplies greener and more resilient. You'll work with cutting-edge technology and industry experts to develop your knowledge of electrification, signalling and telecommunications. And you'll focus on the future, by finding innovative ways to solve industry issues such as improving safety and reducing journey times.

If you choose to take this route, you'll benefit receive management training and be mentored by experienced engineers who will support your personal and professional development.

What you'll get out of it matters

The scheme is focused on giving you a solid platform of knowledge to build on.

In your first four weeks with us, we'll help you to register with either the IET, IMechE or ICE. We'll refund you the cost of this too. Then each placement and training opportunity that follows will be structured towards you becoming either a qualified Chartered Engineer (CENG) or Incorporated (IENG).

You'll rotate through four modules of technical training. The first is a systems approach with an overview of engineering disciplines at Network Rail. The rest relate to the specific disciplines you select. If you choose the Telecoms pathway then you'll also complete specific technical training modules to discover some of the technologies and concepts involved in this discipline.

You'll take some leadership modules too. These will help develop your softer skills and support you to become one of our future leaders. And, you'll have four workplace experiential learning placements.

Each year you'll need to submit your quarterly and annual reports to the IET, IMechE and ICE Institutions. Do this successfully and you'll qualify in IENG in 3 to 4 years and CENG IN 5-6 years.

The opportunities it leads to matter

If you choose to apply for the electrical systems engineering scheme, you'll have the chance to work on a wide range of exciting projects. You'll also have the opportunity to specialise specifically in a system engineering career path and gain accreditation in this pathway accordingly.

If you choose to apply for the telecoms engineering scheme, you'll discover first-hand how the oldest railway system in the world is bringing together legacy telecommunications systems and the latest cutting-edge developments in telecommunication technologies such as 5G.

Previous graduates have gone on to become assistant signalling designers, assistant design engineers or assistant project engineers. There are also plenty of opportunities for promotion to senior management positions across the organisation.

The entry requirements matter

You'll need at least a 2:2 in an Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) accredited degree to apply to join our Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduate Scheme.
