Further Information: Are you looking for a new opportunity? Are you a skilled Personal Assistant with experience of supporting adults with autism and challenging behaviour? Two male Personal Assistants required to support a 17-year-old Autistic young man in the HU12 area. This young man has Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism (ASD) and behavioural difficulties including ADHD. The right candidates should be good communicators and be able to work alongside parents as well as alone in helping care both at home and out and about. Your role will be to support parents and this young man with his behaviour. You will be expected to communicate with parents and follow their directions. This could include, for example, assistance with various household tasks and independent living, helping with access to education, social outings and partaking in family activities. The ideal candidates would be somebody knowledgeable in autism, understanding, patient and tolerant. This young man can display at times challenging behaviour(including occasional sexual commentary) ; therefore, you must be able to cope in a high pressured and challenging environment whilst providing excellent support.
This is a 2:1 where both PAs will be required to work as a team to manage this young man's support needs. Hours of work will be 37 hours per week with flexibility required. You may be asked to work evenings or late nights.(all will be discussed at interview)
Applicants must be flexible in their approach to work, like a job that can be demanding but varied, and have a strongly developed sense of social justice in supporting the social inclusion of disabled people in their local communities. Applicants should also be honest and trustworthy, have a confident nature with the ability to remain calm, be good at communicating, and be able to build good relationships with people, based on trust and respect.
