Senior Control Systems Engineer

We specialise in industrial plant automation and systems integration. We provide project engineering, integration and consultancy for SCADA Systems and PLCs. As well as project engineering some of our Senior Engineers facilitate a wide range of PLC maintenance and faultfinding courses and deliver these to our Customers.

A fantastic advantage to working at Opensoft Systems is that we have an in-house training facility based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Our allocated trainers can provide you with access to training at different levels across all PLCs and versions of SCADA - Siemens, Rockwell / Allen Bradley, AVEVA / Wonderware, Omron, Mitsubishi, GE Proficy. We are looking to speak with Engineers who have experience in any of these PLCs. The successful Candidate will be given training on other areas as required.

Our clients use SCADA software combined with various PLC's, therefore a good understanding in PLC's and general automation software in a plant environment is key for this role.

Role - Senior Control Systems Engineer

As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for:

* The complete project life cycle management - from requirement gathering / scoping visits, through design to commissioning and installation, Site Acceptance Testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, and follow-on warranty queries - Cradle to Grave project management;

* Uploading all documentation, technical information, PLC backups and VMs onto company system in correct location;

* Up front project functional design specification (FDS) documentation will be required together with site audit reports, system design architectures, Testing and As Built documentation;

* Provision of software / hardware specification / BOM to Engineering Team Coordinator for purchasing;

* Software development, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining many kinds of automatic equipment;

* Understanding layouts and technical drawings, and will be able to produce technical drawings (Visio / AutoCAD);

* Preparing software, commissioning, and validating projects for the pharmaceutical, waste management, food manufacturing, aerospace, energy and utilities industries;

* Providing customer support by phone and technical support on Customer sites (various locations in the UK)

* Provision of production assistance and troubleshooting at Customer sites;

* Commissioning PLC Software and installation of Hardware on Customer Sites;

* Operator training and handover of project documentation upon completion;

* Signing off risk assessments and method statements;

* Communicating with Customers and the Engineering Team on project updates;

* Your own and others Health and Safety onsite, ensuring correct equipment and PPE is taken to visits (this will be provided by Opensoft Systems);

* Supporting the development of Opensoft Systems Graduate Engineers as and when required;

* Working remotely on Customer support tickets as and when required;

* Updating the CRM with support ticket progress and ensuring the Customer is aligned;

* Supporting our sales and marketing team with technical queries when requested;

* Managing your own expenses (the Company will provide a credit card if required);

* In addition to the duties listed, the jobholder is required to perform other duties assigned by his/her Manager/lead Engineer from time to time.

Key Skills and Experience

Experience in Siemens S7 300 - 400 PLC, using Simatic Manager Software and;

S7-1200 PLC using TIA Portal Software;

WinCC Flexible HMI code development and commissioning;

Experience in Communication networks establishment DH+, MPI, Profibus, Ethernet, OPC Servers;

Experience in any of the SCADA systems WinCC 6.2, 7.0, 7.2, InTouch, iFix, Cimplicity SCADA development and commissioning. Basic understanding of VB Scripting necessary to troubleshoot SCADA scripts;

Experience in any other automation platforms SLC series of Rockwell PLCs and RSView32 SCADA, Mitsubishi Q Series, GE 90, 30 RXSi etc;

Strictly must have experience across PLC/HMI/SCADA development and commissioning;

You will be provided training on any of the above where required.

Attributes

The successful Candidate will be conscientious and self-motivated with the ability to work on their own clearly focused on the project objectives;

You will be able to utilise reverse engineering to provide solutions;

You will have a proven track record of working within systems integration organisation or similar environment delivering projects within industry;

Front line commissioning experience is essential as is the ability to think through logically suitable solutions for clients at pre and post sales stage;

You will be clear at communicating and will be able to deal with people at all levels from plant engineers to group managers and senior management;

You will possess excellent listening skills.

Pre-Requites:

Degree or HNC/HND in the following - Automation, Control Systems, Instrumentation or any related subjects such as Electrical Engineering;

Proven ability with development & programming of Siemens PLC and SCADA system;

Demonstrable relevant Control System Software Engineering ability within industrial domains;

Ability to carry out all elements of Software design within Controls Systems.
