Job description
We are looking for an EC&I Design Engineer from either the Gas or any other hazardous areas industry for a permanent position in the North East paying up to circa £55-60k salary per annum and circa £77k total package. Located up to 1.5 hours from either Leeds or Sunderland office, working from home with 1-2 days in an office per week.
Working as the successful EC&I Design Engineer you will either be Chartered or Incorporated with the ability to achieve Chartered status within 24 months. It would be an advantage (but is not essential) if you are degree qualified in a related engineering discipline - Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation & Control.
Your hazardous areas industries experience could include Gas, Oil, Refinery, Water, Chemical, Petrochemical, Steel or similar.
Job Purpose and Dimensions:
*Work within a small design team of 3-6 colleagues, reporting to a Senior Design Engineer
*Produce concept designs, detailed designs, and specifications in accordance with procedures and relevant engineering specifications and HSE legislation
*Develop and produce design documentation, electrical calculations, wiring schematics, electrical distribution schematic (single line diagram), cable / equipment / material schedules, earthing drawings, equipment layout, instrumentation cable block diagram, cable route plans, interface connection drawing, P&ID, instrument loop diagrams, instrument process Hook-up, instrument piping schedules, I/O schedules, and hazardous area drawings
*Support the procurement process with regard to material and equipment specifications and data sheets, plus quality assurance audits
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
*Option Studies, Concept Designs and FEED studies, and Detailed Designs
*Design EC&I installation work and produce all necessary calculations for cable sizing, protection, earthing, lightening protection, diversity, discrimination, cause & effect charts, block diagrams, single line diagrams, PID's, GA's, update redline packs to 'As Builts approved or use' etc.
*Check and Approve engineering design work, and design changes, undertaken by other design team members or assigned consultants, ensuring compliance with all relevant UK Legislation and Industry Standards and Codes of Practice etc.
*Contribute to HAZID, HAZOP, and HAZCON studies, and Auditing of the EC&I design function throughout the project lifecycle
*Manage EC&I design projects within time and budget constraints and report on progress
*Provide EC&I technical design support to Project Managers
*Liaise with 3rd parties to ensure compliance of the full design pack
*Approval and/or appraisal of 3rd party designs
*Order long lead time materials and equipment in conjunction with the Project Managers
*Site visits to support feasibility studies
*Comprehensive understanding of design work within Hazardous Areas
*Attend HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and Design Review meetings with staff and contractors
*Travel to sites and attend FAT and design reviews at vendor and supplier premises
Knowledge, experience and Technical know-how:
*Comprehensive understanding and experience of all UK Engineering and Design legislation and appropriate Codes of Practice
*Comprehensive understanding of design work within Hazardous Areas
*AutoCAD, Amtech and MS Office experience is required
*Good awareness of Functional Safety
*Good experience of Pre-heat systems, trace heating, UPS Systems, Standby Generation, HV Connections and AC Motors within hazardous areas
