Job description

Mechanical Engineering - 12-month Year in Industry

Are you an engineering undergraduate, looking for a
year in industry placement?

Then look no further. A year in industry with Drax
is a great opportunity to put the theory you're learning into practise. We are one
of the largest energy producers in the UK and somewhere you can make a tangible
difference. Not only will you learn valuable skills as you start out on your
career, you will be doing so in the unique atmosphere of the UK's largest power
station, a nationally significant and critical asset near Selby, North
Yorkshire.

About the role

On your placement you will be working within our Mechanical
Engineering team, you'll be getting hands on with a range of projects and
variety of challenges that arise on plant. You'll be working collaboratively
with the team to find the best solution, utilising your problem-solving skills
and leveraging your knowledge gained at University. You will have the
opportunity to work on everything from fuel collection, storage, material
transfer conveyors & piping, pumps, fire detection & suppression
systems and Boiler engineering projects

About you

If you are studying towards a MEng, BEng or BSc in Mechanical
Engineering or related subject, then we would love to hear from you. You will
need to have a knowledge of engineering software as well as experience with
AutoCAD, 2D and 3D software. Alongside this, you will need good communication
and planning skills.

About Drax
We are one of the largest energy generators in the UK, with our main
site in North Yorkshire covering 13 square miles. That means there are a lot of
complex and interesting structures to work on, not to mention some of the new
ones in the pipeline.

We could easily tell you more about what a
fantastic opportunity this is, but here is what Tom Crossland, one of our
current students, had to say.

"The placement has given me first-hand experience of working for a
big name in the energy sector; understanding the unique challenges of a
biomass-fired power station while developing universal key skills for a future
career in engineering, such as communication, timekeeping, and stakeholder
management. The placement gives you exposure to a range of live projects,
gaining experience and an understanding of the processes involved from
inception to plant hand-over. Drax is extremely supportive of learning,
offering a variety of useful training courses from internal and external
providers."
