Job description

The Recruitment Crowd have recently partnered with a market leading client! We are recruiting for a permanent production operative

Salary: £25,000

Hours: Monday-Friday 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm rotating weekly with early finish Fridays!

The Role:

Take responsibility for the operation of slitting and spooling machines that produce various types of plastic, paper and non-woven tape products. The tapes are slit from various widths of master rolls to produce from 6 up to 24 strands, typically from 3 to 25mm wide. The machines then wind these strands to make spools that hold up to 10,000m of tape. The operator is responsible for accurate setting up of new jobs, splicing on new master reels, and checking and maintaining the quality of the product produced. Conformance to the Company's Quality system and Health & Safety policies are vital.

The ideal candidate for this role is someone from a textiles or manufacturing background with previous production/machine op experience and someone who has good critical thinking

Key Responsibilities:

* Operate the machine efficiently and skilfully and in line with the Company's Quality and H&S procedures

* Challenge existing processes and strive to improve standards and maximise performance

* Pro-active approach to ensuring that the machine runs smoothly at all times; observe the process and spot any issues that may arise, assess and evaluate root cause and use problem-solving skills to correct and rectify problems

* Cooperate and share knowledge with the Shift Manager and other team members to help build and improve systems and existing processes

* Report any hazards, quality and H&S matters directly to the Shift Manager and/or Compliance Manager

* Responsible for basic machine maintenance and cleaning, good attention to detail and organisational skills essential

* Liaise with others to ensure that there is an adequate supply of raw material ready and available in advance of scheduled jobs. This can include master rolls, cores, boxes and other materials, as specified

* Set the controls on the machine as defined in the Work Instructions, including setting of the machine controls and accurately setting of the Knife Box.

* Use appropriate measuring equipment to check settings are in specification

* Ensure that correct Work Instructions are available and that the computer database is fully updated

* Load and unload the machine, with assistance if appropriate, including proper packing and labelling of finished product.

Experience/Requirements:

* Proven experience at running complex machinery in a manufacturing environment

* Flexible attitude, desire to learn new skills and to succeed

* Understanding of production planning

* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

* Strong numeracy skills - understands tolerances and use of measuring equipment, such as digital callipers.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Good IT skills

* Willing to work a rotating 8 hour shift

* Understanding of Health and Safety policies

* Understanding of Quality Systems

* Understanding of Environmental Management policies
