*Role Summary:*
The post-holder is responsible for engaging and collaborating with external experts and peripheral physicians in order to participate in the scientific medical discussion on the optimal treatment of patients with IBD (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis).
*Responsibilities:*
* Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure professional and credible relationships with thought leaders and external experts of strategic importance to AbbVie.
* Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where relevant.
* Ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for AbbVie in key academic and clinical centers by facilitation of research and educational initiatives, while supporting requests for medical and scientific information on products or areas of therapeutic interest to AbbVie.
* Support the cross-functional/commercial team by visiting physicians requesting in-depth scientific information
* Support internal teams such as sales and marketing to develop their scientific and technical expertise (e.g. through the delivery of scientific update presentations).
* Assist in the initiation; oversight and follow up of assigned clinical studies and medical projects initiated within the therapeutic area for which the MSL carries responsibility.
* Serve as a point of contact within the Medical Affairs team for gastroenterologists in order to satisfy their needs for scientific knowledge in a therapeutic area and, when requested, relevant AbbVie medicines, to support their safe, effective and appropriate use.
* Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable local, global and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, Company policies and accepted standards of best practice.
* Attend relevant national and/or international scientific meetings and conferences. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop summaries of key data and other scientifically relevant information to inform AbbVie strategic priorities and initiatives.
*Experience:*
* Academic degree (PhD, PharmD or MD preferred) in biomedical field (medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, biology)
* 2 years working in a clinical or pharmaceutical environment
* Fluent in Dutch and English (written/spoken)
* Excellent networking and social skills
* Ability to explain complicated scientific matters in a logical and understandable way, ability to translate scientific data into medical information.
* Team player who is able to act independently with a pro-active attitude, able to effectively work in a complex matrix environment.
* Effective presentation and communication skills (both interpersonal and in front of an audience), strong social skills.
* Keen to obtain expert scientific knowledge in a relevant therapeutic specialty.
* The willingness to travel up to 75% of the time is required.
