Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer to join the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the SDS Advanced Programs Organization. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
The position reports to the lead of Vehicle Products Organization and interfaces with other Advanced Programs Core Organization Leads. The Advanced Programs Vehicle Product core organization is envisioned to provide designs including layout, mass properties, performance, subsystems (guidance and control, power, cooling, etc.), technology assessment/insertion, payload integration, and interface/integration with other segments/elements of a weapon system (e.g. command and control, support, launch equipment, etc.).
What you'll get to do:
• Provide technical contributions to a growing Advanced Programs team of designers and analysts focused on conceptual and preliminary design and technology maturation for obsolescence and capability upgrades to existing deterrent systems such as Minuteman III and Ground Based Strategic Deterrent as well as new advanced concepts for future deterrence needs in the areas of ballistic and cruise missiles, nuclear command, control, and communication, and support systems/subsystems such as cyber defense, security, decision aides, etc.
• Contribute to various Advanced Programs projects in vehicle level trade studies, architecture development, and system engineering to produce credible conceptual and preliminary vehicle designs that meet potential customers' performance, cost, schedule, and risk thresholds while informing them of the surrounding design space for capability considerations, especially capability versus life cycle cost versus technical availability date.
• Lead all guidance and control design and analysis efforts including modeling and simulation to include 3 and 6 degree of freedom trajectory simulations, guidance and control law algorithm development and controllability analysis, and accuracy error budget development and actuals estimation and tracking.
• Contribute to identification, assessment, and tracking of vehicles technology roadmap and associated existing or developing vehicle system capability gaps to feed Advanced Programs technology development and conceptual design process.
• Demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business
• Operate in an advanced design environment and collaborate across the Space Sector Divisions and other Sectors as required to accomplish the team goals
• Conceptualize and mature new business for growth of the Division
• Transition innovative solutions, technologies, and advanced concepts for US strategic deterrence interests to programs of record for product development and fielding.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 9 Years of related experience with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
• Experience with DoD weapon system vehicle conceptual and preliminary design, particularly related to design analysis cycles, cost versus capability trade studies, and multi-design discipline integration
• Experience with guidance and control of ballistic missile, cruise missile, and/or weapon design
• Experience with development of error budgets and allocation of constituents to subsystems and components
• Experience with inertial measurement systems and their error sources
• Experience with digital design, model based engineering, and modeling and simulation tools and processes
• U.S. Citizenship and an active Top Secret DoD Security Clearance with a periodic reinvestigation closed within last six years
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with nuclear hardened strategic systems
• Experience with detailed design and engineering and manufacturing development
Salary Range: 108400 - 171100
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
