Job description
The Business Development Manager - Integral Solutions will be responsible for gaining business opportunities in the maritime industry with an emphasis on cargo based opportunities, break bulk and bulk carriers. This role is also responsible for contributing to the successful operation of NLI and providing regular reports on the organization's progress to both the President/CEO and the Board of Directors. The Business Development Manager shall participate in the development of NLI's priorities and objectives.
This role directs and leads the company toward business, financial, and operational goals and objectives. Specifically defines the company mission and objectives then advance the necessary governance to ensure implementation of those goals. Promote company profitability and growth through leadership, planning, organization, and directing of operations. Duties inlcude but are not limited to:
- Researches and develops business opportunities around various stakeholders in the maritime business with emphasis on Cargo based opportunities, break bulk and bulk carriers.
- Individual should have existing links with cargo owners, terminals and shipping companies to research and identify specific needs for logistics solutions for their business in the US territory.
- Provide senior strategic leadership to all business units through commercial prospecting and closure; merger and acquisition evaluations and approval including joint ventures, revenue sharing, and other opportunities; mission and vision leadership for the company and its people, and promotion of business interests.
- Assist with P&L responsibility with an emphasis on leadership and growth.
- Plan, develop, and implement effective business strategies for generating profitable revenues and sales.
- Promote the company to local, national, and international business clientele by way of written articles; service on community and business boards; appearances before governmental entities, and other electronic or written media.
- Provide financial leadership through relationships with banking and financial institutions; budgeting evaluations; long range strategic business funding networking, and policy development.
- Oversee an organizational community that ensures company is a choice employer of preference for employees and prospective employees in the local and international market.
- Implement corporate policies, procedures, and organizational structure for assigned operating unit within the framework of corporate policy.
- Provide support to any number of projects from an operational, financial and resource standpoint.
- Assist in the establishment, and ensure compliance, of operational units' short-term and long-term goals with overall corporate objectives.
- Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the operational unit, company, or as directed by the CEO and / or Executive Mgt Team and / or Board.
Qualifications Required:
- Experience in the maritime & shipping agency or related industries required.
- Four (4) year technical or business administration degree or equivalent highly preferred (advanced degree preferred - MBA, HBA or similar degree preferred).
- Five - ten (5 -10) years progressively responsible experience in Business Development.
- Experience in strategic planning and implementation and demonstrated ability to understand contracting, negotiating, and financial management analysis.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to analyze and evaluate financial data for decision making.
- Accustomed to working closely with executives across all business functions.
- Honest and transparent in approach; a highly visible management style, keen to be involved with all aspects of business operation and with experience of working in a range of diverse cultures.
- Personable, enthusiastic, ambitious, team-oriented and able to lead by example.
- An action oriented, entrepreneurial, self-starter who can take limited direction and produce tangible results by optimizing team output by working within a collaborative environment.
- The ability to make good decisions in a timely manner based on analysis, experience, judgment and wisdom.
- Skillful negotiator in tough situations with both internal and external groups; can effectively settle differences with minimum disruption to relationships and the process; is direct and forceful yet diplomatic; gains the trust of other parties quickly.
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally as required.
- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) card holder preferred and/or must be able to obtain a (TWIC) within 30 days of hire.
- Requires current Motor Vehicle Operator's License with a clean, safe and accident free Motor Vehicle Record.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends and some holidays with travel to and from the marine vessel while in Port.
