Position Summary:

Assists residents with their medication program. May include ordering, tracking, delivering and accounting for (logging) medication as specified in the resident service plan. Requires medication to be delivered at specific times in specific amounts.

Works with residents with functional, physical, social or cognitive needs by assisting the residents with the performance of daily living activities. May include assisting residents with dressing, toileting, moving from place to place, performing exercise/activities, rehabilitation therapies, etc.

All duties will be performed in accordance with established community standards, policies and procedures, resident service objectives, and resident rights policies and objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

Listed below is an outline of the essential job function requirements. This listing of essential job function expectations in no way implies that a Member is expected to do the physical abilities specified on a daily basis. It is simply a definition of the physical expectation requirements should the need arise. All newly hired Caregivers/Med Techs are expected to be able to meet or exceed the essential job function requirements.

Be a team player and behave in a professional manner at all times while in the course of employment and/or on the community premises.
Avoid sharing personal information with residents and/or their family members.
Physically able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis, 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 100 pounds on a rare basis.
Physically able to carry up to 10 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 25 pounds on a rare basis for up to 100 yards.
Physically able to stand and walk up to 95% of the workday.
Physically able to push/pull the supply/meal cart and medication cart, and able transport residents in wheelchairs occasionally throughout the workday.
Physically able to climb stairs and climb onto and off of a three-step stepstool.
Physically able to twist, bend, stoop, crouch and kneel occasionally to frequently throughout the workday.
Physically able to handle, grasp and reach occasionally to frequently throughout the workday.
Able to hear and speak as necessary to communicate with residents, coworkers, visitors and guests.
Able to see as necessary to do their job safely.
Able to smell as necessary to discern resident's needs and/or building emergencies.
Be honest, trustworthy, patient, dependable, and courteous.
Have the ability to work well with others and be able to follow instructions (oral and written) accurately, timely and efficiently.
Maintain a professional appearance while on-site and/or in the course of employment.
Be drug and alcohol free and have a clean police record. May be subject to random or specified drug and alcohol screening (see Member Handbook).
Be able to work with residents in the water in a swimming pool setting.
Be organized and goal oriented.
All Members are required to be awake and alert during their entire work shift. Sleeping on the job site is unacceptable, even in Community break rooms.
Members may be paid for meal breaks when they are required to be on-call, such as night shift or Members accompanying residents on outings. Members who are paid for lunch periods due to being on-call during lunch and breaks may not leave the Community during paid break/meal times. If this paid meal break occurs during a resident outing, the Member must stay with the residents during the paid meal break.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Listed below is an outline of the duties and responsibilities that the Member may be required to perform. This listing of expectations is not to be construed as an all-inclusive list and in no way states or implies that these are the only duties the Member will be required to perform.

Ø Assisting residents with their medication program. May include ordering, logging in, delivering and logging delivered medications timely as directed in resident service plan.
Ø Promoting rich living experiences for residents living within the community, promoting the Artēgan "Art of Living" philosophy.
Ø Providing medication assistance documentation per standard/policy and state requirements
Ø Assisting residents with ADL tasks including, but not limited to, housekeeping tasks, making beds, serving meals, assisting with personal laundry, assisting with showers, assisting with toileting, dressing, undressing, oral care, hair care, transfer assistance and ambulation, and any other needs addressed on the resident service plan.
Ø Communicating changes in resident's conditions accurately and efficiently to RN/LPN/LVN, RSD, emergency personnel, and resident family/responsible party.
Ø Keeping environment safe and clean for all residents.
Ø Observing residents for safety, and report any changes of condition or other pertinent information to supervisor.
Ø Carrying and knowing how to use pagers, and walkie talkies.
Ø Assist residents with use of mobility assistive devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, crutches, etc).
Ø Assist with care and use of other assistive devices (hearing aids, eye glasses, dentures, contact lenses, etc).
Ø Assists residents in making telephone calls, including assisting with hearing and vision adaptive devices.
Ø Assisting with resident laundry.
Ø Escorting residents in and outside of the community setting.
Ø Delivering mail to residents and assisting residents with personal correspondence.
Ø Maintaining resident records in compliance with regulatory requirements and community standard/policy.
Ø Assisting and encouraging residents to be independent in areas of activities of daily living.
Ø Assisting and encouraging residents to be active for reasonable periods of time as permitted.
Ø Promoting resident mobility through appropriate and proper transfer assistance (to/from bed, to/from wheelchair, etc).
Ø Assisting with and encouraging residents in rehabilitation programs to maximize the resident's independence.
Ø Assisting with daily range of motion exercise and ambulation as needed.
Ø Transporting residents in wheelchairs by pushing chair to desired location.
Ø Serving nourishment (meals/snacks) to residents.
Ø Observing eating residents for chewing/swallowing problems.
Ø Reporting nutritional and fluid intakes in charts as directed by resident service plan.
Ø Answering resident call lights promptly and assuring that residents have easy access to call lights.
Ø Cleaning equipment and utility areas as assigned and reporting equipment discovered or appearing to be in need of repair immediately.
Ø Keeping resident living areas neat and orderly (with personal care items stored properly and closing hung, in closets/drawers or placed in soled bins as appropriate).
Ø Monitoring smoking residents to assure compliance with smoking standard/policy.
Ø Assisting with resident evacuation in emergent situations.
Ø Observing and reporting to License Nurse on duty any changes in resident's physical condition, and/or cognitive/psychosocial status pursuant to community standards, policies and procedures.
Ø Conducting room checks and resident rounds.
Ø Monitoring for environmental safety hazards.
Ø Immediately reporting incidents, errors or accidents associated with resident health and care.
Ø Completing all required resident paperwork promptly.
Ø Provide well resident checks for soiled linens/clothing and taking corrective measures as necessary.
Ø Taking and recording vital signs and weights according to the resident service plan schedule and as requested by the nurse on duty.
Ø Participating in the development and implementation of resident service plans as stipulated in standard/policy and procedures.
Ø Pursuant to community standard/policy, may be required to notify physicians of changes in a resident's condition. Direction will be provided by the RSD and/or ED for your community to determine the situations when it is appropriate for you to be in touch with the resident's physician.
Ø Required to complete resident incident reports per community protocol.

Education and Special Requirements:

  • Ability to set up, record and assist with medications as ordered by physicians. To be done as specified by community standard/policy and/or as directed by the RN/RSD.
  • Be drug and alcohol free.
  • Be able to complete and pass all state required tests and training.
  • May be required to complete and pass Nurse Delegation Core Training.
  • Be able to rotate days worked, different shifts, and weekends whenever necessary.
  • The Member must possess at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years working with elder adults in declining health is preferred.
  • Experience in resident activities in an assisted living, nursing home or residential care environment.
  • Experience in dementia care is preferred.
  • Have required background check with no convictions in violation of applicable state/federal laws and no disqualifying events.
