Job description

Leonardo Electronics US Inc. (LEI), is a subsidiary of Leonardo, providing a wide range of solutions to defense, medical, automotive, industrial, and scientific applications. The Laser solutions division of LEI, located in Tucson, Arizona, is a fully vertically integrated manufacturer of laser diode components and systems. The products manufactured by LEI-Laser Solutions continue to advance the state of the art in laser diode technology and maintain leadership positions in the markets it services. LEI-Laser Solutions is expanding and will be moving to a purpose built facility at the end of 2023. LEI is looking for a construction project manager to monitor, provide guidance, and report status on the purpose-built facility project through its final design, construction, and commissioning phases.

Job Purpose:

To liaise directly with the Design/Construction/Developer teams and local authorities to monitor and report on all aspects of the design and execution phases of the purpose-built facility project ensuring that LEI interests relating to design and quality are represented accordingly. To ensure that project schedule is understood and communicated to the LEI management team together with any emerging risks / issues.

Duties:

  • Provide leadership in final design phase, construction planning, and construction stages by collaborating with responsible LEI staff, architects, engineers, or other involved parties.
  • Work with the construction team, architects, and LEI management to ensure construction choices and changes are approved by all parties, documented, and within agreed budget. When unexpected complications or issues arise, can make quick and necessary recommendations to construction team and management.
  • Prepare external and internal reports relating to job status, daily progress, estimates, and deliverables.
  • Communicate with the responsible parties to ensure quality of construction and proper industry processes are utilized, while ensuring LEI's needs and wants are efficiently met.
  • Be present on the construction side for the duration of the project (to include the transition from current to new facility) to ensure issues are addressed in real time.
  • Participate in developing a transition plan for tools from current site to new site.
  • Co-ordinate tool transport between facilities using efficient and safe methods.
  • Ensure proper resources are available for tool uninstall in current facility and install in the new facility.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering with at least 15 years in construction management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in large construction projects and knowledge of all areas of construction
  • Construction Manager certification by the American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America preferred
  • Experience in construction of clean rooms for semiconductor manufacturing is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, construction drawings, and regulations
  • Ability to deal with conflict in a constructive manner
  • Overseeing several projects at the same time
