Storage and Data Protection Systems Engineer - DevOps
What You'll Do
You will leverage your experience to manage, maintain and build tools for enterprise storage and data protection infrastructure for Walmart. As a member of the storage engineering team, you will be responsible for supporting and developing tools for the storage and data protection service offerings. To do so, you will use, maintain, build tools to support various workloads and use them effectively to optimally utilize, capture, report capacities and performance metrics for storage file/block/object and data protection systems.
Who You'll Work With…
You will work with storage engineering team to analyze and report issues relating to storage. You will work with Systems, DB, Network and other teams on operational DevOps alignment and cross-domain projects. You will work with storage vendors to understand and leverage the vendor DevOps tools as development platforms for storage services. You will collaborate with storage infrastructure engineering team members to deliver every day and continue to develop and enhance your expertise as a "Storage DevOps Engineer".
Who You Are…
- You have 5 years of experience
- Experience on products with at least 1 of the following storage vendors - NetApp/EMC/Pure
- Experience is supporting storage services on storage protocols for NFS, CIFS and FC
- Experience with developing and maintaining tools for IaC (Infrastructure as Code)
- Experience in CI/CD tools
- Expert in python programming
- Good understating on REST API, SMI-S
- Experience in configuration management tools - Ansible/Puppet/Chef
- Good understanding SAN switches is a plus
- Experience working in Linux, Windows and Mac environments
- Experience with storage monitoring and reporting tools
- Good understanding on virtualization technologies such as VMware VSphere
- Good understanding on clustered/distributed systems
- Apply best practice and team standards while meeting service level objectives
Operational Tools Development & Support:
- Develop, maintain, and provide operational support for automation and integration of storage and data protection services tools
- Develop and integrate provisioning and lifecycle tools for storage services components
- Develop and maintain compliance validation tools for infrastructure security and standards
- Develop and maintain reporting tools for performance and stability issues
- Develop and maintain Case/Ticket management integration tools
- Assist with task automation where applicable
- Provide technical assistance to all internal/external customers during tools environment outages
- Perform after-hours support in an on-call issue as needed
Document/Learning:
- Maintain knowledge of multiple technologies in the storage environments
- Provide clear technical tools documentation and written procedures to ensure all support team
members can assist in all phases of storage management across different device types
- Create documentation and provide education to support teams for new products and features
- Ensure runbooks are in place that define day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting
knowledgebase of the tools
Influencing:
- Provide suggestions to improve the delivery of services by the team
- Execute and provide feedback for operational policies, procedure, processes and standards
- Partner with key vendor providers to escalate and troubleshoot severity issues
- Provide informal knowledge transfer
- Recommend and assist with monitoring and alerting
- This position will require technical systems knowledge in areas (OS, Oracle, SQL, etc..) outside
the DevOps storage environment to be able to support & optimize
