Strategen Consulting is seeking a Business Development Manager to lead and support consulting projects for public and private sector clients focused on evaluating the role and value of clean energy solutions, with a special emphasis on green hydrogen, renewables and energy storage, clean transportation, etc.

Sales Operations Support:
· Support development of data collection and metrics needed to ensure both tactical and strategic development of the US Consulting pipeline
o Develop strategic insights including metrics to guide sales goals, revenue estimates, and strategic market positioning
o Execute market research and analysis on competitors
o Manage and maintain sales tools and pipelines
· Develop, manage and implement standardized policies and procedures for business development and sales operations including processes for quality controlling accuracy in data and reporting for the following:
o Sales Funnel development and tracking
o Project completion and resources used for finance and accounting
o Project kick-off and close-out operations,
o Client satisfaction surveys and interviews, with the objective of improving long-term client retention and creating expanded and/or repeat business opportunities.
· Oversee the maintenance of win/loss database of consulting opportunities to develop insights and make recommendations on areas for improvement
· Strategically and operationally manage the accuracy of US client pipeline reporting for Consulting, seeking input from team members to support:
o the consulting business unit meets its monthly revenue goals consistently, while avoiding large swings in revenue to ensure predictability of upcoming resource needs and project pipeline.
o pipeline is accurately recorded,
o projects properly scoped & budgeted in resource management software
o team resources are being properly assigned to upcoming projects in coordination with Head of US Consulting and
o projects in the pipeline are being accurately forecasted in future months.
· Manage and moderate internal organizational forums to drive alignment on forward-looking pipeline
· Support team activities on project resourcing and staffing to ensure effective delivery of pipeline

Business Development, Proposal Development & Management:
· Manage efficient proposal development for the US team, serving as point person to take lead as appropriate and providing a proposal QC role on projects being scoped by others, ensuring consistent proposal quality and branding, in coordination with the marketing team. Manage and update proposal collateral, including but not limited to
o Maintain and update standard proposal templates
o Maintain and update qualifications, including write ups of new or recently completed projects
o Establish standard processes and procedures to ensure "evergreen" proposal and qualifications
o Ensure that Strategen maintains its small and minority business certifications
· Generate new business development leads, identify and develops new sales channels; support efforts for new client development for Strategen including assistance with proposals and presentations as necessary

  • Support senior team members in client-facing and/or business development activities
  • Diagnose problems that prospective clients may have and offer potential solutions
o Assist Strategen team members in scoping and providing clarity on client project requests, which may be ambiguous
o Collaborate with team members in scoping and writing proposals for clients and responding to client requests
  • Help prepare senior team members for client meetings and presentations
  • Build relationships with existing and potential clients
  • Understand client needs and objectives to tailor client engagement and support.
o Attend industry events and conferences to present and network
o Write technical scopes of work clearly
o Support relationship building by interacting with key clients or client organizations via phone, email and in person to understand client needs, work-plan and to identify next steps
· Collaborate with marketing to develop and implement strategic marketing campaigns

Marketing Presence and Thought Leadership:
· Identify strategic opportunities to improve Strategen's market presence, and coordinate with senior team members to ensure appropriate visibility to high potential client segments
o Manage and maintain Strategen's relationships with organizations including NASEO, NARUC, AEE
o Develop and maintain a strategic marketing and communications calendar
o Proactively identify speaking opportunities for Strategen team members and ensure a presence at key market events
o Develop abstracts and apply for speaking opportunities at conferences / webinars
· As needed, develop materials for senior leaders' webinars, panels, and other speaking engagements
· Collaborate with other team members to write or ghost write blog posts, op-eds, white papers, or other thought leadership
· Collaborate with marketing to ensure visibility of Strategen thought leadership via social, newsletters and on Strategen's website
  • Identify innovative mechanisms for Strategen to develop and provide deep insights into how to transform the power system quickly and in an equitable manner. Promote solutions created to industry problems associated with grid transformation through preparing abstracts and presentations for conferences/webinars or drafting white papers

Client Project execution:
  • Assist Strategen's consulting practice by supporting execution of client projects with a primary focus on projects with substantial public or market-facing components
  • Develop presentation or communication material, press releases, or other public-facing collateral to support the visibility of Strategen's work

Team Support:
  • Support growth and development of the Strategen consulting team by helping to mentor and educate junior staff on energy market fundamentals, policy developments, and other relevant topics
  • Help the team with general operational tasks and internal projects for organizational improvement as needed
Time Management:
  • Self-manage time and workload and communicate regularly with your supervisor and other members of the team to manage expectations about timing and quality of work. Ensure timely delivery of project deliverables and communicate issues as they arise
  • Prioritize between multiple competing internal and external demands to ensure successful delivery across a portfolio of projects
Professional Development:
· Work with manager to craft a professional development plan, independently explore creative solutions to problems related to energy transition, and proactively work to improve targeted skillsets and grow subject matter knowledge

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements and Preferences:
· Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, energy/environmental studies, political science, economics, pre-law/rhetoric, engineering or relevant area
· 5+ years of B2B experience in business development, strategic marketing, account management, conference development, sales or consulting in the clean energy industry
· A minimum of 3 years of experience working in the power sector
· Polished public speaking and presenting skills
· Polished and professional customer service and sales skills
· Able to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and projects to a high standard while meeting short deadlines
· Ability to quickly and appropriately prioritize conflicting demands
· High service and customer experience orientation
· Ability to network and interface with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders
· Entrepreneurial, pragmatic, creative, and results-oriented
· Able to develop, articulate, and sell a vision
· Expert in MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, Powerpoint
· Knowledge of grid technologies & clean energy resources; examples: energy storage, solar PV, wind, electric vehicles, grid modernization.
· Demonstrated ability to manage the development, finalization, and delivery of high-quality presentations and reports
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
· Demonstrated ability to operate independently when required
