OPPORTUNITY
We are a fast-growing pre-IPO biotech company in the Bay Area with external and internal corporate communication needs as the company grows, and are looking for a strong communicator to lead this function. The Senior Director of Corporate Communications will work closely with the CEO and executive teams on company-level communication strategies in partnership with our public relations partner. This is an extremely visible role and requires extensive experience in translating complex technical topics and translating them into media and market friendly stories.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all external corporate communications, executive communications, and corporate media relations, including direct interactions with our collaborators, public relations firm, the media, industry organizations and investor relations
- Drive the planning and implementation of corporate communication strategies and activities that convey Mammoth's mission, message and brand in the best way. Needs to be able to move between multiple segment audiences and contexts
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media, thought leaders, and relevant stakeholders in the national and trade biotech markets
- Proactively identify media opportunities (pitch/story ideas), conduct media follow-up and create compelling content for various audiences
- Support building their external platform and messaging through interviews, op-eds, and speaking engagements
- Work with our leaders to educate on communications & PR strategies, objectives, and priorities. Provide coaching and guidance to the leadership team to enhance their communication and presentation skills
- With internal leaders, define key messages on topics relevant to Mammoth's core business and audiences, and reinforce our image as a respected scientific and business thought leader
- Coordinate with various internal teams to support announcements, program updates, and more
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in communications, biology or related field
- 10+ years experience in the life science/biotech industry, either in-house or with an agency
- Proven track record of managing external/internal communication strategies for high-growth startups in the life science/biotech industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in distilling complex technical stories into media-ready formats
- Demonstrated creativity in deploying stories in various formats
- Advanced degree is a plus
- Experience in marketing a bonus
- Self-starter with drive to work in a fast paced environment
- Experience in the healthcare or biotech space
- Proven media relations skills with top-tier, national, and trade media
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to offer sound media relations advice to executive leadership
