How will you make an impact?
Within the Purification and Pharma Analytics Business Unit, we are seeking an inquisitive scientist responsible for the evaluation and development of ready-to-use breakthrough technologies for the biopharmaceutical industry. This is a great opportunity for an industry scientist/engineer who enjoys working with emerging technology to join a multifaceted and growing business unit where next generation downstream processing are being pioneered. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed product development scientist with experience in technology assessment, bringing strong critical thinking and an open mind to improve our R&D group.
What will you do?
Supporting Purification R&D, the Scientist III will:
• Evaluate novel technologies related to downstream bioprocessing.
• Generate innovative ready-to-use solutions for current industry gaps.
• Conduct packing studies on Thermo Fisher resins.
• Work on cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding products to customers
• Maintain detailed records of all work carried out and report out in a clear, timely manner.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation and recommend replacement as needed.
• Prepare written reports, give presentations, and present posters at exhibitions and conferences
How will you get here?
M.S. in engineering or related discipline, with 3+ years of professional experience; Or B.S. in a science related discipline with 5+ years of related hands-on professional experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Process development or MSAT/Process engineering downstream bioprocessing experience in viral vectors, and/or plasmid DNA.
- Deep understanding of affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic, and multi-modal modality principles.
- Successfully packed lab-scale to production scale columns.
- Proven track record to independently design, plan and execute project tasks and scientific research.
- Understand column design including engineering principles.
- Understanding of biopharma workflows.
- Product development knowledge, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- AKTA Avant or similar chromatography system knowledge.
- Ability to evaluate a complex data set and draw conclusions.
- Analytical HPLC experience is a nice to have.
- Ideally naturally curious, proactive and ambitious.
- Technical communication requirements: ability to produce and present original technical communication materials for internal and external audiences.
