Overview

Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a 370-bed not-for-profit Level 2 Trauma Center located in Carmichael, California, serving the areas of north Sacramento County and south Placer County for more than 50 years. It is one of the area's largest and most comprehensive medical centers. Dedicated to the community's well-being, our staff and volunteers provide excellence in care for our patients each year. Mercy San Juan Medical Center has received recognition for being a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery, along with Certificates of Excellence in Perinatal Care, Hip- and Knee- Replacement.


Responsibilities
The incumbent provides spiritual counseling and ministry to patients and their families, and functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 1 year of Chaplaincy experience in the hospital or healthcare setting.

Licensure:

  • Certification or eligible for certification (with at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education) as Chaplain by NACC or APC.
  • Certification as Chaplain by NACC (National Assn of Catholic Chaplains) or the APC (Assn of Professional Chaplains) preferred.
  • Current California Driver's License, possession of automobile insurance, and access to an operating motor vehicle.
  • Current BLS card.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Advanced studies in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling, Spirituality preferred.
  • Masters degree in Theology or Divinity- preferred

Training:

  • 4 Units Clinical Pastoral Education

Special Skills:

  • Knowledge of: Hospice care; Principles of Death & Dying; Effective communication skills to work with interdisciplinary team; Beliefs and rituals of major religions; Mission, Philosophy, Values of Dignity Health and Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, Common Values for Community Sponsorship; Spiritual assessment; Ministry to sick in all age groups.
