Job description

Job Summary

Business Analyst is responsible for business consulting services, including process and data review.

  • Provides analytical support through the analysis and interpretation of data in support of cross-functional business operations and clinical initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements and works cross-functionally to develop business solutions.
  • Provides analytical support to multiple projects, establishing project plans and timelines and coordinating on projects with internal and external resources.
  • Makes presentations to various levels of management, depending on the level.

Responsibilities
  • Provides analytical support through the analysis and interpretation of data in support of cross-functional business operations and clinical initiatives.
  • Contributes to annual operating plans, capital budgets and forecasts, and build business cases for new business initiatives (cost/benefit analysis).
  • Develops, prepares and analyzes reports for management review, and presents to various levels of management.
  • Defines business requirements and provides analysis to increase operational efficiency.
  • Analyzes actual results against plan and forecast and recommends interventions where appropriate.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in operational performance and notifies management of issues and problems requiring immediate attention.
  • Works cross-functionally in analyzing, designing, and developing business solutions.
  • Provides analytical support for multiple projects simultaneously, establishes work plans and timeliness; coordinates with internal and external resources.
  • Using data mining to extract information from data sets and identify correlations and patterns.
  • Organizing and transforming information into comprehensible structures.
  • Using data to predict trends in the customer base and the consumer population as a whole.
  • Using tools and techniques to visualize data in easy-to-understand formats, such as diagrams and graphs.
  • Creating dashboards, preparing reports and presenting these to business partners.
  • Monitoring data quality and removing corrupt data.
  • Communicating with stakeholders to understand data content and business requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Typically, requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in health plan or healthcare industry - Medi-Cal and Medicare lines of business preferred.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, critical thinking, and accuracy when working with data in order to make accurate conclusions and predictions.
  • Experience in project management to plan work, meet deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of utilization and quality performance metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively share findings with shareholders.
  • A solid understanding of data sources, data organization and storage.
  • A level of IT, mathematical skills, and data analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of relevant relational databases.
  • Experience in SQL programming preferred.
