We have a 3 month contract opportunity for a Sr. Payroll Specialist in Fairfield, CA. This position may get extended or become permanent depending on needs.
Job Duties:
The Senior Payroll Specialist (SPS) performs a variety of intricate accounting functions necessary for the accurate calculation of wages and benefits, maintenance of records and allocation of payroll reporting for funds withheld and disbursed. Coordinates, validates and implements work procedures that require a comprehensive operational knowledge of Federal and State regulations as related to wage garnishment, taxation and wage-hour law. The SPS performs advanced analytical and technical work within specialized areas of payroll. The position requires expertise in complex payroll/benefits, accounting functions, and the ability to make technical decisions requiring application, analysis and interpretation of data facts, procedures, company policy, and law.
The SPS requires a thorough working knowledge of payroll resource information systems such as Lawson, KRONOS, Bureau of National Affairs (BNA), MHC Software, Tax Direct, BSI-Tax Factory, State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) e-Services for Business, Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Department of Commerce, US Census Bureau, and the Social Security Administrations Business Services On-Line (BSO).
The SPS exercises independent judgment, demonstrates discretion, and tact, in the processing of documents and information of a confidential or sensitive nature.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight time constraints. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex accounting and operational problems and be able to recommend viable solutions to those problems. Aptitude to comply with laws, rules, regulations, company policies, and the ability to audit, and reconcile a complex variety of pay/ leave and tax data transactions. Must be able to initiate procedural changes in response to changes in the external environment. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate independent judgments on subjective accounting issues. Must be able to assess reasonableness of their work. PC skills: Microsoft Office, Lawson, MHC, and ImageNow. Demonstrated ability to work with computerized general ledger systems; 10-key calculator by touch. Interpersonal Skills: The qualified candidate will exhibit the communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interface with all levels of management and staff. They need to be able to work independently, and as a team member, by establishing cooperative working relationships. They must exhibit strong customer service history, requiring confidentiality and sensitivity. The ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities is required. Education:: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as described, including courses in accounting, math, statistics or related subjects required.
Experience: 5 or more years payroll processing and benefits experience in a healthcare environment (Lawson preferred), KRONOS, accounting or bookkeeping experience. The position requires a working knowledge of wage & hour laws, and Federal & State tax regulations.
